It'a good, but let's see if anyone gets an extortionate return for an average goalie.

Now, if Marky hits the market with retention, that would be interesting.

Edmonton with their Campbell situation… or do they trust Skinner enough?
Devils want an upgrade in net with Vanecek
Kings have Copley injured and want a reliable backup behind Talbot
Blues done with Binnington?
Vejmelka of the Yotes on the move?
Will Preds’ Saros ever be dealt for a king’s ransom? If not him then Askarov (G) for a top prospect in a different position?
Is Knight ever coming back from his minors stint?
With Raanta passed on waivers, does Carolina just cross their fingers Kochetkov holds the fort down until Andersen comes back or do they find an alternative?
Regardless of the Flyers success, is the rebuild path still Briere’s MO? Will he trade Hart if the price is right? Maybe one’s backup plan if other goalies aren’t available?

I am sure I missed some, but plenty of goaltending talk to consider it madness. Will the Flames move on from one of their goalies to call up Wolf for good?

Leafs can't go into the playoffs with Woll. He's young and unproven. Binnington seems to be a perfect match for the attitude Treliving likes. Capability wise I'm skeptical that he's any good any more. But I can see St. Louis dealing him.

Can't see Hart being dealt.

As for the Flames, I think the best move would be deal Markstrom. If you can get a 2nd, great. Why not move out from a long term contract? I'd also move on from Vladar, and get into a cheap comeback goaltender situation to give Wolf 30% of the starts from this point, with perhaps 50% as early as next year. Vladar isn't good, and you need a goaltender who doesn't get shaken. Would be nice to bring an old vet in to mentor Wolf.

I know that we are all high on wolf, but if there is a retool, you need to shelter him from what could be a rough year or two. I'd keep markstrom.

Personally, I think he has a huge incentive to move. Two of his best buddies in Lindholm and Tanev are most likely moving on. This team is unlikely to contend in the duration of his contract. The new arena isn't going to be finished during his stay. He gets to control the destination.

We all saw how miserable losing made him last year. Why would he want that for 2.5 more years?

Because not moving was super important to him last time out. People overestimate the importance of where players’ friends are. And Montreal he moves to is likely to contend.

So there is something to keep in mind here: Markstrom picked the Flames because he was given the NMC. Before he went to UFA he apparently had two teams in mind. Vancouver or Calgary. His agent apparently used Edmonton as a stalking horse, but that was never a real option. His first choice was Vancouver, his second choice was Calgary but there wasn't some massive gap. The primary goal was term and stability because he didn't want to leave Western Canada.

Swedes are unique in that they will stay with bad teams and make it work if they're comfortable with their life in that city. Especially Swedes in Canada.

At this point if you don't think Marky is friends with other people on the team I don't know what to tell you. Lindholm and Tanev leaving will suck, but I doubt he's making life choices based on that fact.

I agree - it's the nature of the business, friends and teammates get moved all the time. The alternative is him moving to a team where he knows and is friends with a much fewer players. I'm sure he has a lot of good buddies on the team outside of Lindy and Tanev.

If you can move 6m and not even take a bad contract back, I think you’ve got to do it.

For instance, if New Jersey is calling… I think Markstrom would waive to play for them. They have a better chance of giving him success, and likely a better contract after this one. Playing for a d core with Hughes, Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, etc would be nice, along with the offensive firepower they’ve got.

I remember it a little differently. It was right before the expansion draft for SEA. The Canucks offered Markstrom a contract, but they couldn't protect 2 goalies, so they couldn't offer Markstrom a NMC because they wanted to protect Demko.

Markstrom didn't want to sign with VAN, just to end up playing on an expansion team in SEA. As far as the Flames' NMC, I think it had more to do with not being traded a year into his contract, having control over trades, and because EDM offered one too.

I wasn't suggesting he doesn't have other friends on the team. Just that the guys he hangs out with the most will be gone. Also, that it will be compounded with losing, and a younger group of guys, which usually have a bit of a different life style.

You remember somewhat correctly. They wouldn't give a NMC because they would protect the goalie who they felt gave them the best chance to win whether that was Demko (who at that point had just gone on the bubble run but had no guarantees to follow it up) or Markstrom. But it wasn't just the expansion draft. He didn't want to move period. At all. At any point. He didn't want to move a year into the deal. He didn't want to move five years into the deal. Western Canada was where he wanted to be and I don't think that's changed.

With one exception in his whole career, BT has stunk at sorting out goalies on his team. So he won’t get Markstrom. He’ll get someone else that will collapse in the first round.

I doubt Marky gets traded. Vladar will get packaged with a pending UFA. Problem solved.

I don't know anything about his wife, but it's interesting he got married in Banff and not offseason in Sweden or some destination place.

Yeah, to me that just shows how much they love the area.

They're from the same town, I believe. But I recall in his last off-season with Vancouver, he didn't go back to Sweden. Not sure if that's continued.

That sucks if true, but another good reason not to give out NMC's.

Unless you have spoken with him personally, this is way over-stated, you just can't be this certain about his personal intentions.

Well, technically you can be this certain, but you'd be wrong.

Sure, okay. I'd still bet a lot of money on Markstrom finishing his contract in Calgary. Wanna take the bet?

Well that's a huge goalpost move, and not moving is more likely than moving, for any player, during their contract, but if you want to offer up a bet, let's hear it.

What? What goal posts? I'm saying he's not going to wave his NMC. Finishing his contract in Calgary means he didn't waive it. I am willing to bet, based on all the information that I have and all the information that's been reported that Jakob Markstrom would not waive his NMC. You're disputing that's the case.

What goal posts?

$200
