So after (unsurprisingly) getting blown out by the Oilers (on National TV? NO WAY), the Canes have the opportunity to put it behind them by facing Calgary tonight. Will they do that? Probably not. It’ll probably be another situation like the one against the Jets, where we play much better defensively, but can’t score worth a damn and our goaltending will once again let us down. #CauseChaos
Speaking of goaltending, who the hell do you start this game? Raanta was lined up for the starter for this one, but he wound up playing most of last game. Do you give PK another chance behind a (hopefully) better effort from the team in front of him? Can either of them be trusted, with both likely knowing that the team is likely actively looking for one (or both) of their replacements?
Also, anytime a certain player wants to start contributing positively again, now would probably be the ideal time to do so. I had a certain player in mind when writing that sentence, but I quickly realized it applied to far too many players on this team. Probably not a good sign.
Um…Go Canes? Salvage this road trip somehow?

Dear goalies,
Don't care who is in net tonight, make a f***ing save.
Thanks

They'll probably outshoot the Flames 45-26 but still lose 5-2 and one of the Flames has a hat trick

This road trip is dumb.
Quote:
It seems pretty much every player on the team is lacking in confidence with the puck right now, not hugely surprising given the struggles but I don't think it's an intentional decision. I think players who skate in and have a chance off the rush aren't confident in their abilities to pull it off and make the safe play by just establishing the zone and maintaining the possession. Svech has been king of confidence on those types of players throughout his career but it's painfully obvious that he doesn't have it right now -- of course he's coming off a significant injury and needs time to really get back up to speed and feel confident in his knee holding up, but that is a big factor in our recent struggles I'd say. Other guys are just snake-bitten and it seems like it's all at the same time which is just bad luck/timing.
Quote:
I don't know who I start.
Part of me says kochetkov and let him either make a save or get shredded so management sees he's not the guy. And keep putting him in until he's replaced by the fo.
Or put raanta in and give him the chance to become a hero.
Honestly I have zero confidence in any of our goalies and cringe every time a shot is taken.
At some point having the worst save percentage in the league has to be blamed on goaltending.
At some point you have to take a chance on perets and pray for a miracle

Wife went to the store at the at the beginning of the game, and when I came in the room after the first goal I asked when she got home, because she may have been going back to the store until the end of the game....

Somebody has told the Flames that there is a game, they have waken up. Just hope that the Hurricanes keep on skating and play for fifteen more minutes.
I should have not written this, now it is one goal game. :-(

No poopy pants in the third period please.

The Flames break through after controlling the period so far.

i'm not saying rod needs to jump over the boards but if he thinks guys aren't pulling their weight then he needs to figure out how to get them to do so. the thing about talent is one reason i laugh when people insist that he change the system, I guess folks expect them to magically get better at passing if they aren't expected to forecheck

I didn't understand the arguments that 'this team hasn't found their identity' that we heard earlier this year. The team is essentially the same aside from a couple 4th liner exits and one bottom pairing defenseman. But this team is a shell of its former self. It is #### or get off the pot time.

Angry Rod

Rod made the team walk from Edmonton to Calgary and it’s showing

Oh #### Rod just kicked something lol. Us too Roddy, us too

This is rock bottom for the Rod era
Quote:
Rod goes into the locker room for 2nd intermission, neatly unbuttoned, takes his shirt off, and starts doing regular push-ups. He continues this for 15 minutes straight and stares unblinking into everyone’s eyes the entire time. When he’s done he utters three words:
####ing. Score. Again.
Quote:
man what is going on. like 1.5 periods of good Canes hockey then we just fall off the pressure and let the Flames absolutely tilt the ice in their favor
Quote:
I feel like Rod could be a GDT commenter tonight. Just in disbelief for the only PP of the game to give up the possible GWG on a SHG. Like that’s ####in terrible boys.

I've never once complained about Rod or his coaching but you can't constantly preach that people aren't buying in and then continue to play them. That excuse doesn't fly at this point of the season anymore

Coach.

Finals PTSD

Hate seeing the Flames win...but as someone who lives in Canes territory, and who has endured way too much bandwagoning from that self-serving fanbase, this is extra enjoyable watching them implode on this road trip.

I am glad that Wolf got the win and the team gave him some goal support. Confidence is such a big thing with goalies, and even if they play well, W's are the thing they want. I don't think any goalie goes to bed after a loss and thinks, oh well, at least I played well. OK, well maybe Mike Smith did that sort of thing.
I don't know what they need to do to get this team playing a full 60 on a regular basis though. It's weird.

Connor Zary has 5 NHL goals in 16 NHL games. Dylan Holloway with 4 NHL goals in 65 NHL games.
Oiler buddies laughed when the Flames drafted Zary. Tonight I got to laugh at them as I somehow won a bet that Zary would get 5 goals in the NHL before Dylan Holloway. Bahaha
