Hearing that this line in The Christmas Song has been altered by radio stations to eliminate the word Eskimos.

Getting f-cking strep throat four days into a seven day tropical vacation. F-ck me.
Thankfully this place has some very lax rules on how pharmacies operate, so I’m already two days into a run of amoxicillin for it and seems to be doing its job. But still, I missed our f-cking boat tour today, friend’s birthday dinner last night… ugh.
Also, all-day sideways rain during one of the four days that I was actually okay for. Usually it’s five minutes of torrential downpour followed by light rain followed by sun. Not this time.

Did they replace it with “pimps and hoes”?

The Calgary Catholic school schedule for next year with a delayed start between 11:00 and noon on Wednesdays - how the heck are working parents supposed to manage that?

I guess they just assume that every family has a stay at home mom like in the 50's.

Yes it is kind of like how the public schools have early dismissal on Friday but instead they want to do late start on Wednesday. Their solution to work schedules seems to be "parents can find an out of school care provider."

Who, including teachers, wouldn't rather have early dismissal Fridays over this? Sleep In Wednesday? What's the point?

They're saying it is to allow teachers time for professional development, marking etc. when they aren't as tired at the end of the week, but teachers weren't consulted and the ones I've talked to don't like this (a lot of them are parents too and since they'll have to be in school they are as inconvenienced as the rest of us). They also say to give kids a chance for more sleep but since it is just one day and most of them will probably need to get up to go to out of school care or whatever anyhow it doesn't hold either.

No, but it’s annoying when a new topic is brought up with no actual background info provided.
Yeah, it’s dumb, but no idea if people were losing their minds and “scrambling “ over a permanent change or what.

There is some literature that teenagers, especially boys would benefit from later school starts. This would be permanently moving to a 9:30 or 10 start time and extending the end of the school day to 4 or 5.
What they are doing here is just dumb. Now it’s just as dumb as dismissing early on Friday. Doesn’t really matter which day the school is ruining childcare plans.

I think they should push back the start for junior and senior high because I do think that extra sleep would help those kids. But, I feel really bad for parents of young kids with this change. It's just such a mess. I think a better solution would be to extent classes the other 4 days, and maybe add a week of teaching and have every Friday off.
The school schedule is just a mess though. The number of non-instruction days compared to when I was in school is surprising. Back then teachers were concerned that they didn't have time to get through the curriculum, so I can't imagine it's doable now?
And then you have this "dead time" as the holidays approach and summer break where basically nothing gets done. And exam weeks for senior high that eat into classroom time as well. It seems like we had more days in school than what we see now.
