Some of you want the Flames to come out and say they desperately want to move all UFAs...lol we should play poker sometime. Bring your wallet

A top 10-protected 1st would suffice. Don't see them moving Lekkerimaki or Willander, and Raty is alright but I'd prefer we select our own prospects. I think with the season Vancouver is having they could afford trading their 1st for some help on the backend. A guy like Tanev would re-sign with them.

Thing is the Flames position that the market probably grows closer to the deadline is true.

Look at the teams in the playoff race and their LTIR usage / cap space accrual.

Teams that aren't accruing space:

Toronto: Have $3.1M space now but dependent on injuries to Gio / Klingberg
Colorado: $4.95M LTIR space...maybe some more room with Girard in player assistance program.
Tampa Bay: no space
Vegas: no space
Washington: $7.2M of LTIR space - could be looking for a center if Backstrom's career is over.
LA: $2.6 of space on LTIR - but depends if Arvidsson returns
Vancouver: $5.7M of LTIR space right now not sure how that all works post Beauvillier trade with Suter, Soucy, Poolman, on IR
Rangers: $16M of LTIR space right now but Fox/Chytil will be back, Kakko probably done for year
Bruins: no space

So those teams are already in LTIR and capped out. They probably can't make a move until the deadline and it's still going to take some work to make people fit.

Of this group Vancouver and Toronto are the desperate ones right now because cap space unexpectedly opened up, and they are in need of dmen due to injuries...but also if you're Conroy you're right to try to make them overpay you hold all the cards.

Especially because as the season passes these other teams will have more space to do things due to cap accural...

Teams Accruing Cap:

St.Louis: $1.3M Deadline Cap Space
Dallas: $2.0M Deadline Cap Space
New Jersey: $4.5M Deadline Cap Space
Florida: $5.6M Deadline Cap Space
Seattle: $6.5M Deadline Cap Space
Winnipeg: $7.0M Deadline Cap Space
Carolina: $8.0M Deadline Cap Space (To me this is probably the Lindholm destination)
Arizona: $15.4M Deadline Cap Space
Detroit: $19.3M Deadline Cap Space (Probably team to look at for Hanifin/Lindholm if Kane signals them trying to push)
Buffalo: $32M Deadline Cap Space

Not all of those teams are likely to be buyers at the deadline, but you never know if a team like Buffalo continues to climb up the standings and decides to take a stab. Detroit seems to have sold Kane on their vision, maybe they make a push too.

So if I'm the Flames I'm not really looking at taking Vancouver's offer right now unless it's a crazy overpayment...because you hold the cards right now and they are the ones in a position where maybe getting a bit more desperate.

I'm not a fan of Raty. He's basically Cole Schwindt, but with a higher skill-floor if he can get his skating speed to an NHL-caliber level.

What would the add from Vancouver need to be if the flames took back Tyler Myers? Pretty sure he is still just a salary dump at this point but tough to know if the Canucks would risk disrupting the team that much.

To Vancouver:
Zadorov

To Calgary:
Tyler Myers
2024 1st round pick
2024 2nd round pick
Aatu Raty

I don't think Zadorov or Tanev are bringing back a 1st now or at the deadline. I also don't think the offers are going to get much better at the deadline. You set your price and if team matches the price then you move them. The deadline is just that a deadline to get a deal done, which can be good but also can be bad, because you could end up holding onto the assets and getting nothing for them.

If they trade Tyler Myers they will have to rename the team. No Canadians left on the team.

Flames Target? No. Required salary going back to facilitate a deal, yes.

Awesome breakdown 👍🏻
For whatever reason I’ve always pictured Detroit as the Hanifin destination…

And here's the thing...if none of the Canucks 1st, Willander, Lekkerimaki, or Podkolzin are on the table in a trade right now then Conroy is 100% right to say no, and Vancouver is probably smart not to offer them.

If Canucks are just offering a 2025 2nd then why make that trade right now, there is no point.

Nah, he specifically compared him and Hoglander to Sharangovich as targets

I get it, the deadline brings the best returns, but fans need to understand it's not as simple as "we have all the players, wait for all the teams to have cap space". We're already kind of flooding the market a bit within our team AND more players will be made available as more teams become sellers and suddenly you could be without a dance partner on one or more players.

The deadline is a dance party of teams becoming sellers and buyers and I think our fan base seems to be acting like it's a dance party of teams becoming buyers and the Flames burst into the room alone to dance with them.

Aatu Raty = R2D2.

Years ago, it was Jarko Ruuto.

Oh okay. I don't see it unless his name is pronounced way different than it looks, lol. Either way, good to know going forward.

Not a lot of players like Lindholm or Hanifin will be available, sure teams will have guys to sell but not as good.
