But not just hockey culture doesn’t really matter, since it is hockey culture. There’s plenty of terrible parts of hockey culture that also happen to be terrible parts of other cultures, especially sport-based ones, but it doesn’t make it any better or even any less ####ty. Especially with all the talk about changing the culture, all it takes is a bit of dumb jock humour with a player’s mom as the punchline and guys who grew up idolizing that culture hoot and holler about how funny it is.

I originally saw a post on Reddit which is now deleted on the NHL sub. A guy provided a screenshot of a conversation between two people and one of them said the rumour that was involved. There was no sources of who the two people in the screenshots conversation were just one of them said they work for the organization. Like I said no sources provided at all so it was something I just scrolled by but it took off from there.

To me this is more online culture than anything. People want it to be true just so they can meme about it

I don't disagree with that at all. Like I said my post above is saw it originate on Reddit and all it was a screenshot of a text conversation that anyone could put together and then all the subs were on it like a grass fire. Online communities just need one thing and then the memes and jokes can start and start ruining peoples reputations.

Hockey culture used to be much worse.

It's improved dramatically, even if it has a ways to go yet.

Signing up to be a fan of this flawed league full of d-bags and guys with massive egos that still has plenty of old boy club rot at the center of it and then exhibiting shock and disgust when predictable things happen is also silly.

Mom banging rumors are far from the worst thing that's come out of this league/game. Sure it sucks for the bedards and you feel bad but eventually people will move on. It's not the end of their lives or anything.

It's only harmful if you care that deeply about what people think or say. That household is going to be wealthy beyond measure in a few years, I think they'll be just fine when the chatter blows over.

I dunno but compared to the racism, sexual abuse, and denial of representation on the ice, this feels like small beans and those making a fuss maybe need to just step back and save the sensational takes.
