If it’s not criminal, I wonder what is left for defendable (in litigation) reasons to terminate a contract? I guess other contracts have been terminated before convictions on criminal charges have been completed… but usually that’s where it is heading. For the blackhawks, you would think they would want to say something. Letting all this lack of information sit out there just creates a void that the public fills with rumours and speculation.

I hear Bedard is so angry he’s demanded a trade to the Flames.

Where my mind goes....

Davidson is really upset/hurt by this. Has to be significant and likely deeply hurt/affected someone in the org.

Doesn't involve players and they know nothing about this.

Workplace related.

There are a number of women in that organization (Pres of business, AGM, mental coach, performance/diet, locker room manager, director player personnel, development coach, etc etc).

Doesn't seem to be illegal (didn't mention police or external investigation). Not sure if harassment is criminal there.

Have you played hockey if you haven't had someone joke about banging your mom?

Take a look at the top of the bathroom stall toilet paper dispenser the next time you go to a busy bar past midnight. A lot of people are using cocaine. In B.C. personal use is now legal.

And no, you cannot just straight up fire a person for substance abuse issues. That creates all sorts of human rights issues. If it was just about Perry using drugs, they'd be giving him a personal leave and allowing him to seek treatment. It's different if you get caught by police/border guards or in a Kuznetsov type situations, with escorts. Even then, the attitudes have changed a lot. I don't, for example, see Mike Richards' contract getting terminated today.

Perry has either done something very awful, or the Blackhawks are setting themselves up for a defamation lawsuit.

Edit: after reading the statment from the organization, my guess is sexual harrassment of someone on the staff. The Blackhawks are on high alert after the recent scandals. The mention of "Culture" and "Accountability" is really leaning into this being an harrassment issue.

This is a toxic situation Chicago found themselves in again...

Seeing a lot of 'I feel bad for Bedard', which, yes, but how about the woman who was slut shamed, reduced to an online punchline and treated as nothing more than a kill. The 'jokes' framed Perry as if he won some kind of prize. As if the Hawks let it get that far out of hand.

Not just your post, but...

-It doesn't have to be "criminal" to get you fired.
-They have to be very careful what they say, in terms of any potential litgation, privacy concerns, etc.
-As sad as this is, they also have to be careful from a PR, comms, media, etc angle, especially given everything that has happened with the organization...
-"Rumour" involved a generational talent in his first season.
-And also what FlamesAreOne just posted above me.
-And, given all the above, plus other factors, that is a complete denial of the "rumour", and people need to leave that part alone, for all sorts of reasons as identified in this thread.

Geez, I can't believe I have to post that.

FWIW:

14(a) of the SPC allows clubs to terminate (after wiavers) for breaking Club Rules if it's a "material breach".

Standard Club rules (Ex. 14 to the CBA) include rules about drinking, attire, tobacco use in public, gambling, media treatment, etc.

Exactly why they are going to err on being overly zealous even if it turns out there isn’t much substance to an accusation. Can you imagine the #### show there would be if they knew Perry did something and then waited to act on it.

I was going to say, this rumour is basically hockey culture in a nutshell and shows how toxic and stupid it is.

Is it any surprise that hockey fans thought this was hilarious without a second thought for how the rumour would impact anyone else, including the primary victim of it who was pulled in solely because she’s someone’s mom?

Imagine being her and having to hear about this dumb ####. Embarrassing.

He called the rumour about what happened and the spreading of it 'disgusting' not what Perry did as 'disturbing'.

Edit: Oh, I see there was a Q & A as well where he also called the rumour spreading over the last 24 hours as 'disturbing'. He wasn't calling what Perry did though disgusting and disturbing.

I know what you are saying, but isn't this kind of applicable to anyone famous and not just hockey culture? Minions in public do this to anyone of any fame.

It's not just hockey culture.

I am kind of curious where the false rumour started. Probably Twitter or something similar obviously, but does anyone know what meat head actually started it?

There were a number of people that seemed to get really excited and happy about it, which is kind of weird.
