House chores… why is it that taking the garbage/recycling bins to the curb for pickup seems to be a “blue job” in this house? AND end of day recovering them from the curb back to their storage despite other household members coming past them since emptying?

We have an equitable system in our households - kids of both genders are responsible for taking bins out and back in.

FFS, Big Rock is an OG local brewery

The disrespect Big Rock get from some of the local people I know who consider themselves beer aficionados is also baffling. More than once I've had a conversation with someone who considered Big Rock a "macro-brewery".

Like.... hwat?! They're the OG craft brewery in Calgary!

To be honest, they're not that little anymore. I think they outgrew the "craft brewery" model quite a while ago.

They're publicly traded on the TSX have 4 brewing locations and measure revenue in the tens of millions. They are not a craft brewery anymore.

Probably because it was the only one forever and drank so much of it ya get sick of it, at least in my case. I liked some magpie beer back in the day. Can’t remember the name.

That was pylon, I remember it so clearly. He and everyone else got a huge kick out of it.

Maybe they’re just saying “Happy Thanksgiving” to you for the Canadian holiday six weeks late? Seems to be okay for New Years…

This made me go down a rabbit hole as I haven’t thought much about Big Rock since moving away from Calgary. What I learned when I pulled up their financials:

Mike Holditch, formerly of the Flames, is interim CFO.
They are having some massive financial problems.
Looks like they tried to grow too fast, and now their cost structure is just out of whack with their revenues. Big management changes and a cash injection from major shareholder.

This is the golden age of beer, rather concerning that they are doing so poorly.

I just ordered a Trad last night. Not because I have any particular loyalty to Big Rock, but because it was the only brown ale on the menu. With the explosion of micro-breweries and choice in this city, you’d think a fella would have his pick of brown ales. But almost nobody makes them. You’re more likely to find a sour, or a chocolate stout - not to mention 17 varieties of hopped-up IPA - on the menu of a bar or craft brewery than a simple english-style brown ale. So Trad it is.

Ordering a Trad doesn’t need to be justified, it is a good beer.

Troubles Monk in Red Deer has one that’s not bad, Open Road.

Wild Rose did one, not sure if they still do, Barracks Brown.

The IPA explosion was lame. Is this beer good or bad? I have no idea because they just hop the hell out of everything to mask it.

If you're a quality brewery make me a good pilsner, you scared ass bitch! There's no hiding in that. I DARE YOU!

That’s why I generally think the IPA isn’t a good beer, and they just cover it up. I like an IPA here or there for the crispness, but it’s way out of hand.

And for Pilsner, I often have a Fahr Pils. Overall, Fahr makes great beer.
