I kind of agree. It's kind of weird he seemed invested in the team one week saying all kinds of things (mostly honest and well received, leadership stuff), then requested a trade the next.

Why finish last when you can finish 9th in the conference and draft 15th OA???

Oh when I say weakest team I meant 90lb weakling weak. Where no one hits, everyone camps out in front of our net and other teams hack and slash us at will with no consequences.
and you are dreaming if you don't think Zad and the wife beater made a difference on the ice with their presence.

Yeah, they should have signed Gudbranson to a 4x4 contract. He is really helping the Blue Jackets

I like Zadorov.
I don't like his expected price tag.
I think there are less expensive ways to have some intimidation in your lineup.

They may have been honest but according to Francis (I know) they weren’t that well received in the room.

The BJs are idiots. They should have given that contract to Zadorov.
I would take Gudbradson back here if it was a 4X $2 or $2.5.

If we can get him for 4X$4 we should do it.

Probably part of why he requested a trade
I remember Tkachuk was not well received neither
The Flames room is for the peaceful type

Take Reeves back as a cap dump from the Leafs. Having him go hard at Kane in the BOA might be worth the overpriced tag and hopefully sweetens the deal.

I did and I don't think that him requesting a trade changes the value he provides on the ice compared to his expected cap-hit/term. IMO even $3.75M is too much to be paying your 5th D.
I have had a similar opinion of the likes of: Gudbranson(4 w. CBJ), Sarich(3.6), Engelland(2.9), Stone(3.5).
I'd much rather have the cap hit investmed in the top 2 pairings and have them play 45-50mins a night.

I think in today's market $3.5–$4.0 m for a #5 defenseman is actually on point, and you nailed the problem with your last sentence. Zadorov is probably worth that on the open market, and there will undoubtedly be a team who will pay it. However, with where the Flames are presently, that money over a four-year term is better spent elsewhere.

But Zad won't /wouldn't be the #5 D next season, he would currently slot in as #3.
I assume the Flames wouldnt bring in another top 4 , so Zad would slot as the #3/4 guy
I still prefer trading for assets and just signing someone cheaper, shorter term, and a little worse to fill the slot - as that makes more sense for where the Flames are competitively IMO

I kind of hope he's dealt for a solid return, gets to summer and realizes the Flames were on point with their most recent offer, and circles back and signs a 2 year deal in Calgary (even 3 if the dollars are good).
We've never had one of those ... deal and get back.

It always seems that way until one of your top 4 gets injured. There's value in having a #5 who can play up the lineup.
