I feel the exact opposite. As long as the team is within sniffing distance of the playoffs they will delay on those two as long as possible. If the team is in a playoff spot come Christmas break I would bet they start engaging extension talks again with both.
None of the UFAs value will ever be higher than it is this year and they are not going to be worth any length of contract given to them by a desperate team like the Flames.
Sell every single one of them for the highest value you can get and move on.
Regardless of the last week, the franchise has been treading water for a decade. Time to move forward on a new path, but with players who have room to grow and have potential.
Lindholm, Hanafin, Zadorov and Tanev are what they are and will get their peak career contracts next year and they will not be able to produce to to make it worth it for the life of the contracts.
Asset management means learning when an asset is not worth it to keep.

Hard time believing this.
Surely the injection of youth has to be seen as the turnaround catalyst, not the stellar play of our vets. If anything it suggests that going young is the way of the NHL today and validates Conroy’s approach.

That's great and for the most part I agree but they are not going to do that for a couple of reasons. First, the mandate from ownership was to try and win now, as long as they have a chance at playoff revenue Edwards is not going to be on board with selling everyone off. The biggest reason why I don't see it happening though is that mandate is what they sold Michael Backlund to return here. The guy signed an extension after saying repeatedly he wants to win and you think if the team is in a playoff spot they are going to trade away Hanifin and Lindholm as opposed to signing them if they can? That would be a hell of a thing to do to a player who has been with the franchise his whole career. I get it, most of us want to sell, sell, sell but if they are in the playoffs picture I can't see it. I think they will definitely move Zadorov regardless and Vladar as well if they can but that's it. They would probably walk Tanev to free agency and use him as a rental for the playoffs.
I have a hard time imagining a team holding down a wildcart spot at the deadline dealing away their #1C and their #3, #4, and #5 d-men. I think Zadarov will be gone. But 50/50 each on Hanifin and Lindholm. And if they move Zadorov and Hanifin they’ll hang on to Tanev. No way they’ll go into the playoffs with Gilbert and DeSimone as the second D pairing.
Hope I’m wrong, though.

Thinking the Jackets are quickly approaching the "not worth salvaging" point of the season and that maybe Lindholm isn't going to be what they're after.
Yeah, we forget that other teams reach that point they start to flood the market with their own pending FAs, dumps and rebuild/retool plans.
I’d rather Conroy complete his business regarding Lindholm and Hanifin before other players start to hit the market.

The Flames haves showed for 4-5 years they cannot win with Lindholm, Hanafin, Tanev and Zadarov.
What the hell is the point in keeping them at inflated contracts. It's nonsensical. They don't have any real high end help coming through the pipeline.
They have to cut their losses and go in a different direction. If the ownership group can't realize this, then they shouldn't be the ownership group. Or they are just plain ####ing stupid.

you don't sign all of them but this is also a poor take
teams win in hockey...not 3 or 4 players
That's like saying the Leafs should get rid of Nylander and Matthews because they can't win with them
Personally I would sign Hanifin
Lindholms ask is too high
Zadorov can go

Gaudreau part 2, Flames are a bubble team at very best this season.
They are not contenders, I sure hope they don't attempt to resign UFAs to have 2 or 3 home dates

The message and mandate can stay the same but with these players the team is on the bubble so I do t see how giving Hanifin a 2.5M raise and Lindholm a $4+M raise keeps them competitive with a chance to win? I think Backlund signed here for legacy and family reasons as much as he did for chasing a cup.
Signing those 2 guys to 8 year deals at 27 and 29 when you have almost 30 Weegar for 7 more years, 30 year old Huberdeau for another 7 and 33 year old Kadri for another 5 is a recipe for disaster.
I truly hope what you are saying is opinion and not fact because it is a horrible decision that will do nothing by continue to cap out and age this team. If the direction changes and Bscklund wants to move I am sure they will oblige but I also don’t think they are looking to go scorched earth and would rather retool. Having cap flexibility and picks is the easiest way to do that and they have the assets to make it happen with their UFA’s. According to Sec214 Lindholm and his camp want a change anyway and Hanifin walked away from the $60M deal so the flames might not have a choice.
Conroy also said he will not lose these guys in free agency so I tend to believe that is still the plan.

The team is resurgent because of young players.
Re-signing the UFAs would nullify that.

I think people are over-reacting. I don't think Conroy is going to walk all these guys to free agency. No way.
And I don't think any of them are going to want to re-sign now.
