I was disappointed in Markstrom last year, but this year I think he's been one of the bright spots.

61st of 74 goalies in goals against. 24th of 74 in GAA. 35th of 74 in SV%.
7th of 74 in cap hit.

I’ve been as unimpressed with Markstrom as anybody throughout his tenure as. Flame, but he’s been great so far this season, definitely a lot better than last season. He’s probably been the team’s best player so far this season with Kadri closing in quickly.
Good to see Markstrom at the very least raising his trade value. Feels like there’s a few teams that could use a good goalie right now.

If you watch the actual games he has been very good this year. The Flames have been bad in their own end for most of the games. Marsktrom has kept them in those games, and even stole a few.

So the GAA he’s top third.
Goals against means he plays a lot for the average to still be in the top third with that.
10th in GAA this year with minimum 10 games played. On a team that was hovering around 30th in the league. That’s actually pretty amazing.

He has negative trade value. If he was making $2m a year, and this was the last year of his deal, then sure, he'd be worth something in return. He's carries a $6m cap hit for this season and two more after that. He's a very below average goalie, and a few good games won't change the fact that nobody is going to take his contract off our hands. We had to include a first rounder to get rid of Monahan's expiring contract, which was less of a cap hit than Markstrom. Two more seasons at six million a year means we're stuck with him.

Of the 32 goalies with the most ice time this season, he's 13th in GAA.

If Markstrom can be traded, Conroy should be fire for not doing so.
It’s not like they don’t have the best goaltending prospect in hockey.

He absolutely does not have negative trade value. Opinions are welcome, but yours is wrong.

Trade him to Edmonton, 50% retained for Bourgault and Oilers 2025 1st

I'm open to correction or hearing your opinion, but to dismiss my opinion as "wrong" is a bit much. Can you explain your position? Can you tell me why we had to throw a first round pick into the deal to get Montreal to take Monahan's salary off our books?
We're not talking about trading Markstrom the player, we're talking about trading Markstrom's contract, and the remaining $16.5 million he's owed on it. For that contract to have positive trade value, he'd need to be playing lights out every game, which he simply isn't.

I honestly think they would bite.

Just read the responses to you above - the answers are already there.
Markstrom is, and is playing like, a #1 goalie. And $6M is not unreasonable for a starter.

The stats just don't back that up. If a #1 goalie means one of the best 32 in the league, then sure, I'd agree. However, he carries the seventh highest cap hit for a goalie in the league, and he's nowhere near a top seven goalie.

I know Mega has negative trade value but can we trade him to a different forum? Painful to read

He doesn't need to be. The conversation was about negative value, and that does not apply to him.

So you honestly think there's a GM in the league that would take Markstrom (and his $16.5 million owed) off our hands for nothing?

Have you seen the performances of some of the starting goaltenders this season? There are quite a few teams who could use a workhorse #1 goalie right now, which drives Markstrom’s value up. His contract may not be ideal, but it’s not some albatross. If the Flames ate some cap, they could definitely get net positive value.
