That pairing didn't look worse with Valimaki on it. Z was also terrible to start the year, and he was very off on his passing, which resulted in Gudbranson covering for him. Moreover Gudbranson was the tough guy on that pairing, he fought some heavyweights that year, and he did well clearing the front of the net.

That said, Z was clearly the better D out of that pairing in the playoffs. He would've had an even better playoffs had he not cracked his ribs by crushing into the Dallas net and boards.
All true. That said, Z was the younger guy with more upside for a 4 year deal. By the end of the year he was the guy I wanted to keep, though I liked Gud (not at 4x4).

They actually have quite different skillsets, aside from being big guys. Gud is tough, plays good positional D, can fight and clears well. Z is a better skater and open ice hitter and is better offensively, but more prone to mistakes and getting beaten up.

I know his agent said he wanted to play for the Habs when he was a RFA which some people thought was tampering but they were within their right to talk to him. A good example of a team who thought they had leverage to get a player cheap from a team losing him but Winnipeg did well in the deal to LA

There was one who had Knies + 1st but we were including Markstrom in their proposal. Other Knies requests were solo.

Make Treliving sweat to the very last second and then trade Zadorov somewhere else.

The info is confusing, are they suggesting Brodie would be part of the deal or just the forgotten guy in TO?

Seems a little knee jerky to me to trade only a couple days after the request (unless they've been talking a lot earlier). If the latter, maybe Zadorov heard of the talks and his request was more "get it over with so I can get back to playing".

Treliving trading with his former team, probably trying to correct his latest UFA mistake (Klingberg) ... it would certainly be interesting. Just not sure I see it, especially this early in the season - and especially the notion of Zadorov AND Tanev.

Klingberg + 1st + x is a sensible framework for a Zadorov trade though, IMO. Unless Klingberg has us on his NTC, which is entirely possible.

they're getting a lot of replies from Leaf fans roasting "SDP" saying they don't know what they're talking about and not connected to the team.

Better be getting really good value if Zadorov and Tanev are moving in one trade

Thread on Zadorov segment in latest SDP episode:

After giving context about why Z is getting traded and speaking about his agent they say: “What we’re hearing (Monday morning) is that the Leafs have made their offer and they’re waiting on the flames to commit to making the…

trade. I think there’s an agreement in place where either Zadorov or Zadorov and Tanev would come to Toronto”

Then they go into how TJ Brodie is the odd man out. “Everyone’s been convinced since Seravalli report Brodie’s out of town”

I’m not really sure what they’re getting at here and I may be missing something. “An agreement in place” sounds like a deal is done and they’re waiting to leave Sweden.

I also don’t know why they brought Brodie up, I haven’t seen a single fan talking about moving Brodie

I guess maybe behind the scenes some know that a deal is done and what the deal is (hence why Abruzzesse got some hype yesterday) and SDP just hinted at more than other outlets.

Go listen to the segment at 1:20:00 of their latest pod and lmk what you think they’re saying

SDP really doesn't have any connections tho. This is pure speculation which is fine but lets not pretend they really know.

Dangle worked for Sportsnet. He definitely has some connections and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has some ties close to the team.

They bring up Brodie because it is indeed the odd man out. Money needs to go the other way, there's no forward to send, klingberg just got here and Reilly isn't going anywhere, no other D has big enough cap hit to be relevant to this conversation.

I think they’re talking out their asses. They are guessing just like the rest of us. Nothing happens until the Sweden trip is done as some sweeds are part of the deal. Hence the holdup.

Treliving is used to finishing second in trade negotiations but I am not sure Leaf nation is aware of that?

Adam Wylde is the one who was saying all of that. He knows absolutely nothing. He's a college dropout who's ridden the coat tails of a famous mother and now his high school best friend to leech out a living in entertainment. It's just pure speculation.

Slip the 5m x 8 extension underneath, with the trade transaction papers on top.
