I'm the biggest Zadorov fan on here but if he wants 6 years then... bye bye!
Just sign the 4 X $5mil. That's like 100 trillion rubles when he decides to go back to Russia after Putin is dead.

There's a very good reason why you never see teams pull this kind of stunt during a season.

Montreal did it with PLD and got away with it.

Why would any team give Zadorov 4 x $5M?
He’s a decent #5 dman needing sheltered minutes.

Not sure I'd want that contract, but I think he gets 3-5 years at $5M this summer.
Big.
Can Skate.
Imposing
Has done well off the ice for making a name.
Can move up the roster with injuries.
He has value.

If the Columbus GM was competent he should have given that contract to Big Z.

No they didn’t. They talked to PLD when he was a RFA which was within their right then he signed a 1 year deal with the Jets and was traded to the Kings the following summer

Z is a great rental for a contender. He is a physical Dman who has some offensive upside and is a smooth skater in his prime. He likely wants to get an opportunity to show that value so some other team offers the 4-6 year deal at a significant raise next summer.
Irritating that Z calls out the team then makes a public trade request. For fans who are pro rebuild/retool/reload etc this is not a bad thing as it certainly almost cements their position going forward.

All I am seeing on Twitter from Leafs fans are their 27 year old waiver AHL scrubs, late picks, and dumping Klingberg or Brodie on the Flames to get one or both of Tanev/Zadorov

When we won the division Gudbranson looked like the superior D for 90% of the season.
Gudbranson was on a great PK1 with Tanev. He blocked a bunch of shots. More often than not he was the one moving the puck up the ice on the Zadorov-Gudbranson pairing. That pairing didn't look worse with Valimaki on it. Z was also terrible to start the year, and he was very off on his passing, which resulted in Gudbranson covering for him. Moreover Gudbranson was the tough guy on that pairing, he fought some heavyweights that year, and he did well clearing the front of the net.
That said, Z was clearly the better D out of that pairing in the playoffs. He would've had an even better playoffs had he not cracked his ribs by crushing into the Dallas net and boards.

I don't know. they were both pretty good and equal in the regular season but it was clear in the playoffs that Z was better than Godbranson.

Playing 5-6 minutes against the other teams worst players.
You don’t give highly sheltered players long term contracts at decent AAV.

Gudbranson averaged 18 mins a night that season, they were sheltered but not to the extent you suggest. Also the PK duties had him facing the other team's best players.
I wasn't suggesting that Gudbranson deserved that contract. Only that it wasn't completely ridiculous to see him get more than Z in free agency that year.

Which is pretty much what the Leafs have traditionally given to the Flames for star players, let alone bottom pairing D Men LOL

Leaf Fans: All I am seeing on Calgarypuck from Flames fans is a 1st round pick and one of Knies/Cowan/Robertson/Niemala and 3rd or 5th pick with Klingberg for Zadorov.

Newsflash:
UFAs get bigger salaries because there is no acquisition cost. Why is this so difficult for people to comprehend?

I don’t have time to go back and read those proposals but I would like to see who thought we were getting Knies+1st?
