He turns 34 in January and still has 3 years left on his deal with a 6 mill cap hit and a full NMC.

I'm still pretty skeptical that he's that easy to move. Mostly because of the remaining term.
*He has 2 years left beyond this season.

I can see Vladar being moved to Colorado. Now that Wolf is on the main squad, they probably want to try and keep it that way.

A team in the thick of a rebuild would have no interest in Huberdeau, unless many, many draft picks are thrown their way.

Actually goals saved above expected is not an exact stat it seems. Evolving hockey for example has Markstrom as 6th in GSAx. Moneypuck has him around 33 I believe.

I mostly agree that Markstrom is hard to move(mostly due to the NMC and last year), but if he plays the same way until the deadline then he will have value.

If the Flames trade Markstrom, they are pretty much rebuilding (unless Wolf emerges as a star). At that point, they might as well retain some salary. I think Markstrom becomes much easier to move even with just a million of retention.

And I think they are almost maxed out on LTIR. They could probably afford Vladar, if they send Tatar the other way.

I could see them wanting to try and upgrade 2C from RyJo as well. He’s got 6 points and costs $4M. Maybe they’d do something with a Lindholm rental.

That's a good point regarding retention. Teams only get 3 retention slots though, so I wonder how much value would the Flames put on using one on Markstrom for 2+years.

Colorado fans are contemplating moving Girard. He's a -8 in 13 games. I think the guy is still a solid D that's suffering from a low PDO(92). I think he would be going back in a Markstrom trade.

Tradeable Flames

Lindholm
Mangiapane
Dube

Hanifin
Tanev
Zadorov

Markstrom / Vladar

Players I would think about targeting who are not high end team prospects, that won't be available, but are probably available depending upon the deal

Sabres - Peyton Krebs, Anton Wahlberg
Devils - Dawson Mercer, Alexander Holtz
Red Wings - Marco Kasper, Axel Sandin Pellikka, William Wallinder
Wild - Brock Faber, Caedan Bankier, Carson Lambos
Hurricanes - Noel Gunler, Ronan Seeley
Rangers - Will Cuylle, Matthew Robertson
Stars - Lian Bichsel, Mavrik Bourque
Kings - Jordan Spence, Jakub Dvorak, Alex Turcotte
Panthers - Ludvig Jansson, Mackie Samoskevich
Canucks - Aatu Raty, Vasily Podkolzin, Danila Klimovich
Avalanche - Mikhail Gulyayev, Jean-Luc Foudy
Leafs - Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten, Nicholas Robertson
Islanders - Samuel Bolduc, William Dufour
Lightning - Isaac Howard
Bruins - Fabian Lysell

I think Markstroms age, salary, and contract term overwhelmingly control his trade value more than his play can. Even if he was clearly the top goalie in the league right now those three things would still be dragging down trade value. Even Vladar with 2 years term at his price is a hard contract to unload. There's other teams like Montreal carrying 3 guys in net too with two of them being younger and cheaper.

Why pay to move Markstom? its not like the Flames will be hurting for cap space

That's why they are carrying them because they don't want to lose them. It also helps to have a 10M goalie on LTIR

Nick Abruzzes is 24 years old. I don't see any value even as a toss in. Francis trying to make connections that just aren't there.
