Play Zadorov. He’ll never be better than he is right now auditioning.

I’m not calling for the Flames to improve. I’m calling for them to turn the page. Start building now.

What happens when Zadorov gets hurt next game? Or when Lindholm continues down is road of futility?

I see Huberdeau working hard and ineffectively. I also see a guy who committed to the Flames.

Steinberg just now: Zadorov should get used to playing here. Flames in no rush.

Wills: they don’t need this distraction.

Well, they’ve got it.
I think you’re out of line with your expectations on timeline. Look at the moves this past summer. Hall for nothing, Toffoli for less than the Flames would have hoped for, Ryan Johansen went for basically nothing. The markets not there, man. The Flames have been smart to exercise some patience. Once we get to the other side of Christmas, or January/February, that’s when we start to see some action.

So if the market was soft, why didn’t Conroy show patience with Toffoli? Why make that trade if they weren’t getting what they wanted? They could certainly use his goal scoring ability (I think they got what they wanted…they got a player and pick for “now”).

I just think once a player goes public, it’s over. He’s off the team. Flames should have played Gilbert tonight.

Sure, if the offers are terrible - don’t rush it. Just have him sitting out. Sit him out for a week as you try to negotiate a trade, and if it doesn’t come then go back to the player and ask how he’d like to proceed.

I don't know if I would go that far, but if I was one of the players who is in the long term plans, I would rip into him.

It’s pretty interesting how public this is and how honest he is being. Normally that doesn’t happen.

I don't buy it that it was agent acting himself. He must have told his agent to leak that stuff right after the game.

No agent does that.

I think Z was pretty clear. He fully supports his agent. He can’t talk about much, but they’ve been in conversation about a trade.

It was probably the agent's decision, but I doubt he didn't run it past Zadorov first. The agent probably said, this is what we should do, and Zadorov probably said ok.

I don't think an agent would blindside their client with something like that. Same thing as when Huberdeau's agent flapped his gums last year.

Conroy had to cut salary. Tofolli wasn’t in the long term plans like the others. Older player, term will age poorly. Ufas that are left are younger and should in theory fetch you more at some point. Don’t hate the trade, sharongovich is decent (give him time to adjust) and the pick in a deep draft could swing the trade in our favour.

Think of it this way: If this creates a distraction in the room and the team loses a lot more games as a result, isn't that just part of your divine plan to bottom out and get a high pick?

Enjoy the ride kid. Nobody said that rebuilding would be pretty.

I’m definitely enjoying and cheering for the losses. Much happier to see this outcome, this soon into the year than some sort of late season heartbreak.

…but just like when we win, we want them to win better! I want them to lose better! Quicker! Faster! Harder!

More relevant to Zadarov, Ben Chiarot earned a $19 mil deal with the Wings after showcasing how he could handle the physicality and big stage of the playoffs on the Canadiens’ playoff run.

GMs place a lot of value on how players handle the pressure and grind of the playoffs.

One thing I didn't expect was the poor play of the UFAs. The contract year is supposed to be the high performance year. Do they think they can pressure the Flames by coasting? Sure it hurts potential interest and a trade return, but it also hurts the player more than the Flames. Lindholm, Hanifin especially are potentially shaving 0s off their career earnings. To the Flames it's maybe the difference between a 2nd and a 3rd or nothing. keep floating, our lottery odds only improve.

the ####?

it was a ridiculously bad giveaway...don't even try to blame anyone else on that goal the other guys on the ice likely didn't expect that #### for brains play. Tried a reverse hit when he had the puck behind his own net lol. I know you like to be contrarian but that was the misplay of the entire game and it was obvious.

not to mention the bad penalty

Zadorov was terrible tonight...talking the talk is fine when you walk the walk. Zadorov was a bum out there

Segments of this fan base are so traumatized by summer 2022 that anyone who professes even a modicum of affection for Calgary is now canonized. Get a grip. Nikita Zadorov is vapourware.

Be patient, take advantage of a desperate GM if you can, but send him packing and then go have lunch. In 3 years, if not 3 months, the only thing we'll remember about Big Z is his dumb trade request.
