It is not like there have been a ton of trades and the Flames are sitting on the sidelines. There have been barely any deals other than some fringe players with no cap for late round picks.

The Flames do need to game this out they have multiple pieces to move and a tight cap to manage. They need to use their retention slots carefully and perhaps use one deal that clears space to help them make another deal.

The Flames players who are locked in and need to make it work in Calgary should be pissed off about it, because it certainly doesn't help. I get it if Zadorov wants to try his luck somewhere else if he feels he isn't in the long term plans in Calgary, and by all means, ask for a trade. But making it public is a dick move.
Could have been private for a while and pot boiled over.

I think to some extent, agents are testing a rookie GM with antics like this. They're trying to pressure Conroy into moving Zadorov more quickly than Conroy probably wants to.

Dude has been sitting on this roster for months now. He should have a good understanding of the value of these players on the market. It’s not going to magically change. There’s plenty of teams out there that are after what we have, so get it done and let the fans start looking forward.
lol coming from the guy that wants to tank for 7 years

lulz m I rite?

I’ve never once advocated for tanking for 7 years. Your inability to comprehend that is on you.

My frustrations on this point are that the longer this goes on this way, the worse it is for the players who will still be here when the dust settles.

I don’t want Zary, Wolf, the other younger players to sit around and watch a bunch of “me first” players.

Start building a team.

When one of the players that actually gives a #### and wants to be here, wants out, something is beyond wrong.

Truth! But when I hear the commentators rightly or wrongly saying this caught them off guard I am annoyed. Those 3 should be nothing but hitting the phones non stop. Not making a rushed deal but just looking for moves all season long.

Zadorov, like Kadri, Weegar and Huberdeau signed (or re-signed) here to compete. They are now entering a retooling/rebuilding phase and Zadorov is simply the first to voice his not wanting to waste his prime years during this phase. It's as simple as that.

Why sign Kadri and Huberdeau? This team is doomed for what? 6-7 more years?

That’s the minimum time for a rebuild

So hopefully none of teams that want Zadorov watched the game tonight... especially the 3rd Sens goal

How would you know this? You have no idea which guys are ‘me first’ players. You’re not in that room. You don’t know.

You’re suggesting a guy who has asked for a trade is a ‘me first’ guy yet there just as much reason to believe the guy with an 8 year 84M contract is a ‘me first’ player. How are you coming to these conclusions? I’m interested to know how the plinko chips in your mind have landed where they did.

Poster calling you out for snivelling about the Flames not improving while simultaneously advocating multiple times daily for a rebuild have hit the nail on the head. Which is it? You want the Flames to rebuild or get better now?

You should be pleased with what’s going on. They’re giving the young players a chance and are on the path to dealing pending UFA’s for picks/prospects/young players. What are you whining about?

I’d be sitting Z until he’s traded. I despise public trade requests.

Burkie was adamant about that. Go home.

I am pleased with the failure.

Not super pleased that this organization thought they were good though.

If a player publicly requests a trade, he’s looking out for his own interests. Which is fine by me, but move on from them as a team.

I’m not calling for the Flames to improve. I’m calling for them to turn the page. Start building now.

What happens when Zadorov gets hurt next game? Or when Lindholm continues down is road of futility?

I see Huberdeau working hard and ineffectively. I also see a guy who committed to the Flames.

Steinberg just now: Zadorov should get used to playing here. Flames in no rush.

Wills: they don’t need this distraction.

Well, they’ve got it.

Right. That would surely kick off the bidding war.

There’s no point for the Flames to devalue their asset by sitting him. Accomplishes nothing.

Also allowing emotions to get involved is how you end up with Gilmour for Leeman, Savard for Sergei Igor-Svetlanaov (think I have that right), or even the Phaneuf trade which I suppose you could argue was the best of the worst.

Play Zadorov. Hell, play him 20 mins a night.

Yeah, I think most of us know that if they play Z 20 minutes a night, they’ll devalue the asset. Look at him tonight.
