Adding Vladar to Zadorov likely decreases the return.
Vladar is a cap dump at this stage at a time where even small amounts of cap can be hard to move.
Sure NJ’s goalies haven’t been great, but they’ve been much better than Vladar.
Holtz is 21 years old getting fourth line minutes on a team loaded with top 6 players. There is no reason to move him. Eventually there will be room in their top 6 due to cap moves.
Better chance of prying a first round pick out of them IMO.

Zadorov is entitled to do what is in his best interests. Teams do it all the time.
Zadorov made it known he would love to stay and sign an extension. The Flames said no.
So here we are.

Great. One of the very few players that shows up every game! This is so Flames. Overpay for garbage or players that show up when they feel like it but let guys like Zad get away. The guy has offensive skill that is severely lacking on defence (Anderson has it but rarely uses it) He’s entertaining and is sure as sh-t better than Hanifin. Pisses me off.

That will be a long eventually. The Devils are already looking at a Toffoli extension and have Meir and Bratt also ahead of him. This kid probably wants to play more minutes.

There are way more people on here who don’t want a rebuild than I thought. I prefer they don’t have three UFA dmen at the deadline and flood a limited demand market. Zadorov is fun to watch play but isn’t a guy I’d want at a higher cap hit than he is making now.

I don’t see how NJ makes a trade work unless they send Toffoli back. Or unless it’s some blockbuster Zadorov/Markstrom for Bratt/Vanacek which would be awesome.

Yeah, Zadorov is paid correctly right now. I don’t know how much more a guy who tops out at a 4D can make.

Zadorov came to the Flames twice as a FA
I don’t think the market for the salary he demands is that great.
Obviously Conroy knows this.

I am betting this is just to Amp up the pressure on the flames and encourage interest given the team have done absolutely nothing to address any of the ufa issues facing the team and he probably told them he was leaving months ago.
Hopefully this finally kicks the team in the ass to make some moves and rhet get a decent return. club has just been sitting on its hands doing nothing watching another classic flames middling team stagger towards a bad draft pick and near playoffs miss or first round exit with more key assets having their value run down
Just dont trade him to edmonton please.
|
This isn’t accurate at all.
They traded one pending UFA and resigned another. That’s not nothing. Also, how do you or anyone of us know what/of trade proposals or discussions on the remaining UFA’s are happening?

I don't hold that against him, tbh. He very clearly communicated that he was interested in re-signing, but the Flames haven't showed interest and instead focused on Hanifin and Lindholm. Now he feels he should get more minutes, and I understand that as well. The upcoming free agency is his chance to cash in ... I don't blame him for doing what he perceives to be the best for his career. Fair enough.
I also don't necessarily think it will limit what Conroy can get for him.

True.
The Flames can make this move on their terms. Big Z, as MacKinnon stated, is a donkey. If he was smart, he would have kept quiet and let the trade unfold. The writing was already on the wall.

Yeah, they may give Markstrom a try if it’s free. They are not going to trade one of their young top scores for him.
The Flames will have to retain salary or pick up junk to get rid of Markstrom

How do you know if Conroy was really working on a trade or just dragging out till TDL?
It’s not a dick move if your boss tell you he doesn’t want you and no hurry to do anything

You have this notion that they have better goalies than Markstrom. They don’t. They’d love to have him, or they should. Markstrom’s issue is his $6M hit, which they can’t afford. They have no contracts to move that aren’t their top wingers. So if they want Zadorov and Markstrom they have to move salary, and they were at odds with Bratt as recently as his last negotiations (which I suspect Bratt now thinks didn’t go his way).

I think it is more of a ploy to get the Flames to the table and close to his contract ask. I also don’t really think it changes his trade value all that much. It wasn’t a secret that the Flames didn’t negotiate with him in the summer.
