That in the last week the agent and the team decided that a new direction was needed for Zad. He wants to play for a contending team at least one for a playoff spot and increase his value as this is his last shot at a real payday and was willing to listen to the flames offer but the flames wouldn't commit term/dollar.

Elliot Friedman said Wednesday the Oilers were very close to making a big trade for a goaltender. Coincides with him missing practice Wednesday. Or, he could just be banged up.

Makes sense and can't blame him really.
I do wonder though, if he goes to a contender, and assuming a contender would have a deep defense, he might not be as high profile as he is in Calgary.

This isn't the only activity around the Flames. Conroy is not waiting to see if this turns around, the injection of youth has been a positive and they want to continue. It's believe that want to bring up Poirier as well. However the left D spots are kind of plugged right now with De Simone playing well it could be a showcase.
The Markstrom thing, I have to nail down - he's day to day. But I've herd it could be something more. Trade, I think is doubtful but his value is there for contending teams if the flames are willing to consume some of that cap hit. One scource did say he may have tweaked his hip/groin area last game against Nashville and they could just be resting him given the run and gun of these 3 teams.
This wont be a burn it to the ground rebuild.

If it’s not burn it to the ground, what is it? Like shopping guys for youngish players rather than purely for picks?

25 and younger, controlled or prospects or picks in the next 2 drafts.

I think most people can get on board with this. Especially if we can stockpile some young players. We’ve seen how much more someone like Zary has to give once he gets that opportunity. Pelletier will be itching to join him. Add in Coronato, and 2-3 new guys, this could be a lot of fun to watch.

The ilk of player I see them going after are ones like Dawson Mercer.
Higher pick, already has some experience, and plenty of potential to grow. But their stock is down a bit and could use a change of scenery.
Kind of like Sharangovich. Try to catch teams that are on the cusp with young players who aren't quite there yet, and offer them help now. Get the beans just before they sprout.

All for a rebuild, but don’t half ass it. Do the players on our team a favour and let them go to contenders, and get as many bullets in the chamber to draft great players. Or young guns that are already 1-3 years into development.

This is fun. I still believe that once we ship out Lindholm, Tanev, etc, I honestly don't think we'll be as bad as some people think. We still have some good proven players mixed in with the young guys.

I think Solovyov is already a stud, so I don't have a problem with dealing a piece or two from our D if there is demand out there.
Honestly some of the vets have been so poor that inexperienced rookies are showing them up and bringing a far more engaging product on the ice. That speaks volumes.

It required surgery so I presume it cut a tendon. Anyone heard any timeframe?

if the recent young guys are any indication I have to agree since they have been some of the better players
