This org, man. This org.
It's not that black and white. What kind of a contract does he want so he can stay?

Yeah, he's a sheltered D-man because he's pretty rough defensively. His size and intimidation is valued in the NHL, but his next contract is going to reflect too much size and not enough "how good is this defensemen at defence".

That's why you sell high before you overpay or lose him for nothing.

How much term and dollars does he want?
He’s a great story but also the type of guy you can’t over pay
How can you evaluate this without knowing what it would take to re-sign him?

I like Z. But if he doesn’t want to be here then he doesn’t want to be here. We should get a decent return if a team is desperate enough

I love the big Z. But I’m sure his contract ask is more than a player like him should get, and someone will give it to him next season.

He said in the preseason that he never even got a phone call from the Flames, nevermind a contract offer.

This feels like a sudden and unexpected betrayal.

Nikita, is your agent coercing you somehow? Blink once for yes.

While I get the desire to want to re-sign Zadorov because he seems to like the city and has a good attitude, but he just isn't a priority to deal with when the team has much more important players in a similar situation.

The team should be trading him and all other UFAs.

Very weird how this came up quickly. I am guessing there was perhaps a push for an extension and the Flames said no or Zadorov knows the team is pivoting to a rebuild/retool and doesn’t want to be a part of it? Maybe he doesn’t want to play third pair?

We're in a perfect position to rebuild... except for 2 long-term contracts worth $17M. But other than that, our rebuild is setting up perfectly.

An agent spreading information like this on social media borders on collusion. Letting everyone know that a player has requested a trade lowers their trade value and allows the acquiring team to get them at a discount, which allows the player to be acquired by a team that is more competitive than it would have been if the information hadn’t been leaked.

And it’s also classless and unprofessional.

Not unusual for teams to prioritize their more important players and then seeing what they have left over

I wonder if Zadorov is just unhappy with the inconsistent play of many of his teammates and wants to join an organization that gives a #### on a regular basis. Think back to his comments earlier in the season...

Watching Hanifin tonight, you have to wonder how invested some of these players are in winning. It's been getting better lately, but still nowhere near what it should be. Obviously, this is mostly about Calgary not reciprocating his desire to re-sign, but I think there's more to it than that. There's something still quite off in this team dynamic.

5 minutes after a game concludes though (between a b2b)? Strange.

From the Agent's tweet, sounds like ice time is part of the issue.

Just speculating: guessing that after contract talks with Flames were not going well, they want to go somewhere he can better position himself for his next contract.

He made more great defensive plays tonight than the entire top 4 combined. I know that isn't the case every night, but more often than not he does a good job in his own zone. He gets beat sometimes and it looks bad, but we forget the other times that guys like Andersson, Tanev, Weegar, or Hanifin make sloppy turnovers resulting in a goal against.

If we didn’t have the ridiculous Huberdeau contract (which is probably a league worst value wise) keeping Zadorov would have been way easier.

I believe this. He was speaking out a few games in a row and with him asking for an extension and the Flames refusing he’s saying “#### this, I’m out.”
