TBH I didn't think they would be last place but I did think they were substantially worse than last season. Posters that no longer post on CP for some reason had heated arguments with me about it not long ago.
Pat Steinberg is the only media member I know of that didn't tow the company line and had the gull to say they might be worse.
Where did these supposed experts see the improvement??

I get why they are trying it though. They just don't have good enough individual defensemen to play man-to-man, but at this point, it couldn't possibly be worse.

I don't think anyone ever makes McHobo do anything. If he is playing, it is because he wants to play. The coaches and the training staff are powerless to keep him out of the lineup.

2) McDavid is banged up, but not "Injured", but the years of over playing him have added to a degradation of things that have made him special. His speed and ability to change direction. In the NHL these skills aren't a huge difference between stars and superstars. So a small degradation of speed or other skills will make him more ordinary.
|
I think it is clear that McDavid is not playing at 100% right now, but what is unclear is just how "injured" he may or may not be, and whether or not this is just temporary, or just the way he is moving forward. I tend to think that whatever is wrong with him, it must be extremely minor. After all, since returning to face the Flames after having missed two games McLoser's ATOI has increased by a whopping 18%—he has been playing an additional 3:35 per game!

So the oilers wanted to see if their season could be saved with McDavid at say 70%.
Everyone thinks they’ll make a move for a goalie/defenceman but if they don’t win at least 5 of their next 6 games, the season is effectively over for them. They could make a trade now but it could likely involves their first round pick since teams know how desperate they are. If they make that trade and still struggle for the next week or so, it’s the worst case scenario for them - horrible season and no first round pick along with also likely losing Draisaitl to a trade demand. Followed shortly after by McDavid.

Something missed in all the McEntitled injury cover is the impact this has had on the other Wondertwin. While one can posit that this has caused the substantial decline in the production of the "Best Player in the World," it also carries major implications for what's happening with the "Second-Best Player in the World."
Dry-heaves has declined from 9 pts in 5GP (1.8 pts/GP) to 6 pts in 7GP (0.86) since the Winnipeg game. That is a 53% drop(!) in production—more than half. I think this is showing with abundant clarity that the German Gretzky is rather nothing more than a very good first-line player. I might be worried that this is going to affect his next contract, but because it is the never-ending Oilers hype-machine at work he is still on track to be a hilariously overpaid $14.0 m player for the next seven or eight years after 2024.

I’m beginning to sense there may be an outside chance the Oilers don’t win the Cup.

This article may have been posted already, as it's two days old. But McLoser definitely has some sort of nagging injury, and the Oilers are playing him anyway out of desperation to try and salvage their dismal season.
The guy hasn't been noticeable at all outside of a few PPs and the losses keep piling up. They also have some tougher games coming up over this next stretch when they head out on an Eastern road trip, so it's not going to get any better for them.

Whatever the injury was that cost him two games earlier this season, it lingers. And in this world of utter secrecy when it comes to sports injuries, we can only assume that he is not inflicting further damage by playing, even if — to our eye — the annual Hart Trophy candidate was operating at somewhere around 70 per cent Monday night in Vancouver.
“I feel healthy enough to be out there, and I've got to be better,” the Edmonton Oilers star said in an exclusive interview after his team’s 6-2 loss to the Canucks on Monday.

Well I guess the issue for the Oilers is that playing zone or man to man defence is going to be difficult when the whole point of the system is to defend and you have no player who can defend.

This is an epic and unprecedented fail for a team many picked to win the Stanley Cup. If Gerard Gallant, or more likely assistant Glen Gulutzan, is not behind the bench Saturday night in Seattle, then you’ll know that Holland has given up on the season.

I actually think he might have the same injury with his hip that Monahan had. McDavid's faceoff percentage is way down as well. Similar to how Monahan's dropped, and I remember hearing Johnny say something along the lines of his hip would lock up when he would bend down to take a faceoff. His shot was affected, his passing was affected and his mobility. All things that appear to be wrong with McDavid currently.
This is purely speculation I have no inside information.
