100%. When McDavid and Draisaitl finally leave, only then will they turn on them and finally admit they were one dimensional players.

Staples suggests Oilers are playing majestic fire wagon hockey in an era of park the bus hockey.
https://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...ith-nhl-trends
In all fairness he also points out they are getting shot volume, but not the high danger stuff.
Quote:
They are a firewagon team in a park-the-bus league. And that the Oilers can’t seem to change that, even if they want to do so.
Firewagon is a reference to the brilliant and reckless attacking style of hockey made famous by the Montreal Canadiens. Parking the bus is what defensive-minded teams do in European football, putting all their players in and around the penalty area in front of the goalie to prevent goals against.

I'm sure any real sports writers that have tried to cover them learn pretty quickly that any type of even mild criticism of the overall team doesn't gets clicks, it gets angry complaints. See Hextal, Leah.
There is a huge amount of space between being a team friendly beat writer and an over the top sycophant, but Oilers fans don't want that.
it's the same with their Jack McMonsterTruck game call. They aren't stuck with him, hey actually like it and think it's good.
Oilers fans are the MAGA delusionals of the NHL, and they won't listen to anyone who challenges the divine right of their team. It's why their go to move is always to scapegoat a player or coach, with zero conversation about other issues.

This is an accurate take about the Oilers' fanbase - every Canadian fanbase has their own little brand of toxicity and this is a good summary of the Oilers'.
The thing is, when they're confronted with something like this - the absolute undeniable reality that their vaunted "cup or bust" team is probably not even going to make the playoffs and definitely isn't among the league's contenders despite the pablum they're constantly fed by their hockey version of Pravda shoving "OILERS = BEST TEAM" down their throats all year - the bottom falls out, psychologically. Total break. The cognitive dissonance results in absolute mania. See the link I posted above, there's a guy there who is an Oiler fan video blogger guy, with posters and jerseys hanging on the wall, saying he's done watching the team and he'll cheer for whoever McDavid ends up playing for after he leaves this dumpster fire.
It's a beautiful thing to watch.

Holland was a great GM when he had an unlimited budget. Once the salary cap came in, he proved himself completely lost.

I am torn if I want Woodksippy fired or to lead the Oilers through this fun season and cap it off with a top 5 pick.
A clip showed him walking off with Manson saying that's got to be it right? and Manson said Yup!

Let's hope that the Oilers don't throw in the towel until they've traded this year's 1st rounder trying to salvage their season.

Nah, it should still be the Oilers at the bottom, celebrating yet another 1OA that they will destroy.

When the Flames are bad, the fans become a miserable, petty bunch of schadenfreude addicts who derive their hockey enjoyment from watching other teams fail, feeding on the anguish and suffering of rival fanbases. Just embrace it, and enjoy the the absolute despondency coming from up north. Let it wash over you, let it nourish your dark and malicious soul.

That’s not entirely fair. Flames fans are miserable, petty schadenfreude addicts all of the time, it’s just that when our team is bad, our only hockey enjoyment is derived from watching other teams fail, unlike the usual case where it’s just the majority of our enjoyment that is derived from it.

No, you don't. Absolutely not.
E=NG is a guaranteed misery-free zone for all Flames fans; it has always been that way, and we will never change that.
It is totally fine to "be honest" about the Flames in virtually every other of the hundreds of threads on this board, but—and, I get tired of having to point this out season after season—THIS GROUND IS SACROSANCT.
