Do they expect Albertans to not notice that those two goals are not compatible? In order to expand capacity, we need more funding in health care. Funding that is directed to health care, not adding administrative costs into the system.
All of their cronies running mental health facilities (and eventually other facilities) are gonna get rich. Albertans are gonna get ####ed.

Yes. Her supporters have no ability to decipher reality and just blindly follow her message. Just throw in a couple of F the Feds and Berta strong and she's good to go.

How does that affect your day-to-day dealings with people? I just interacted with about 15 people at work today. With a couple exceptions, I have no idea who they voted for. Don’t care.

Is this a serious question? The policies of the awful government these people vote in doesn't affect my day-to-day?

Few people of any political stripe (and I’m not a conservative) get so worked up by politics that they move, or say they can’t stand the people who voted differently than they do.
And it’s nothing to do with ignorance. Mostly a matter of temperament.

No, it's ignorance, particularly in Alberta. Most people are not hyperpolitical, so they just put the vote in for the standing conservative party, and that's it. That's why the UCP is what it is today, because moderates continue to (falsely) equate them with progressive conservatives.
A large swath of Albertans still put their vote on auto-pilot. It's been that way for years.

I didn't say I moved because of the politics. I said there's no way I'd come back because of them.
And you're crazy if you don't think politics plays a role. I'm someone with permanent disabilities that require constant care. Why wouldn't the UCP's policies regarding health care be something I consider when considering where I want to live?

Cliff, do you realize how unempathetic you sound when you post things like that? Maybe it's unintentional, but also maybe some self-reflection is in order if you can't at all fathom why politics would be so important to someone's life choices.

The documents, revealed through a freedom of information request, show Smith’s plans were in place well before the government’s announcement and were not — as she has said publicly — the result of requests from provincial regulators.
As it turns out, the government was already preparing speaking notes on its decision before provincial regulators weighed in.
Lori Williams, an associate professor of policy studies at Mount Royal University in Calgary, said the revelation the government lied is significant.
“There are serious questions about why this rather lengthy pause on renewable energy approvals was instituted in the first place,” she said.
She said the newly revealed documents show the government was justifying a decision that was already made — and the fact the government then tried to lie about its motivations is puzzling.

It's not really puzzling. People who voted for her aren't going to change their vote because she lied. If they cared about that they wouldn't have voted for the party in the first place.

It's gonna be different with this healthcare reform though. We should totally just trust what they told us and see how it plays out.

I don't want (or need) to speak for Cliff, but I feel the same way.
If I closed my eyes and lived my life in Alberta for the past 10 years, I couldn't tell you which government was in power based on anything in my day-to-day life. I recognize that I'm quite fortunate, and can certainly empathize for anyone who is affected more directly by any government's actions, but I can't help but feel the vast majority of people are the same way... I just think most people are too busy living their lives and generally speaking, are not engaged with government policies to the point that they barely register in the ebbs and flows of someone's daily routine. Go to work, kids go to school, a new road opens, etc, etc...

You'd think so, but many Albertans go far out of their way to dunk on Trudeau any chance they get - and that's for a level of government that factors the least into our daily lives as Albertans. We live in a very, very strange world.

Usually if a government needs to sell you on something (or lie to try and sell you on it), then the policy is not representative of the voters.
This government (and the one prior) has done this all too often.

I love how the "reforms" do nothing remotely to solve the problems we have with long ER wait times, recruitment of medical staff, long term care facility bed shortages, metal health and opioid crisis, or adjustment to ready the province for an aging population. Instead the Danielle Smith's solution is to add more management and consultants to the mix, siphon off tax dollars into UCP insider pockets, and there will still some how be rubes that will eat this up. Boggles the mind.
