And, even if the Oilers were going to pay the whole thing, you don’t let your biggest rivals take him and potentially turn things around. Can you imagine the firestorm you could be creating, which is entirely avoidable?

Spend 2 year with that tire fire of a team or spend time on my ranch for the same 8 million dollar pay day? Hmm, touch choice.
They'd have to pay out his deal and then pay him another 8 million for 2 years.

Edmonton? Plan? Hahahaha!!
Ken Holland is about as competent as any random meth addict you can pull off the train station. Might as well let them make the decisions.

They talked about Sutter and the Oilers on Barn Burner today. It was along the lines of if it was any team other than the Oilers, Edwards would be happy to get rid of Sutter’s owed money. But there’s no way he’d do anything for the Oilers.

NHL got rid of the compensation for hockey execs. The policy is now that a team needs to be granted permission to talk. There will be no compensation in terms of picks. I think the only thing that is negotiated is the amount of money the Flames would be on the hook for. I guess the Flames could say no dice unless the Oilers cover the full amount that they are currently paying Sutter. We will never know unless that permission is granted.
If I am Sutter I make the Oilers offer 5M over 3 years knowing he will only be there for this and maybe next year.

Teams can play terrible when they don't trust their goalie. So I can understand why they want to get rid of Campbell. However they now have to deal with Skinner who was also bad... Maybe the goalies aren't to blame here? Maybe they should be waiving the likes of Nurse and Bouchard who are both terrible in their own zone and let's not forget about Draisatl and McDavid who are too entitled to come back and help out in their own zone... Waiving someone is not the answer here. It's a huge systemic problem, from how they built the team to how they play their game.

They got blown out again and waived the only player who had nothing to do with it.

There was some stuff on HF today (I know but it's fun!) that McTheRealGM has pushed hard for the team to bring in Campbell, and of course was a hard advocate for Brown.

I think this is the biggest hurdle, and I don't think it is possible to clear it. Sutter has been consistent about where he would coach, and now that he is 65-years-old I think the chances of that changing are basically NIL.

I also read yesterday that McDavid vetoed trading Fogele who has apparently become part of the McDavid cool club, which forced Holland to jettison Kostin and Yamamoto.
Maybe it will be for the better as neither Kostin or Yamamoto are lighting it up this season, but it's the principle of a player getting to decide who stays and who goes. I also doubt Fogele would be putting up any points on another team.
