Voting for the motion was an absolute must for the NDP if they wanted to keep face in looking out for affordability for Canadians. I think it was the right move for the NDP.
So now that the Liberals didn't get their 'get-out-of-jail-free' card and are now on record as choosing regional favoritism along side separatists, how does this look for the Liberals? They have now stood their ground and shown favoritism to certain regions over others.

Is this the end for long time rural Liberal MPs like Hajdu?
Hajdu, Hon. Patty
(Thunder Bay—Superior North)
Liberal
Nay
She had 44.99% of the votes in 2021 in a landslide win.

The district is currently 33% CPC, we will see how this vote plays out for the Liberals in districts they could not afford to lose.

Look, there's a reason I'm not a political strategist. I had forgotten that the Bloc held power in this.

Looool what’s your point man? Do you expect peoples political opinions and views to be right in line with yours? I sure hope not cuz life is too short to be miserable about this kind of thing.
In 2015 it became clear that it was time for a change and we got Trudeau to the delight of lots of people here. Now it’s becoming clear that he and his party have overstayed their welcome and it’ll likely be Poilievre taking over.
That really irks some people but you’ll have to give him a chance to prove he’s not another POS politician.
For reference, I’ve voted with a centre-right lean my entire adult life, except in Nenshis first election cuz I believed he was a welcome change, and in 2015 when I thought Harpers time was up. I lost my appetite for Trudeau quick but I def gave him a chance.
This isn’t sports, tribal thinking can only be fun and positive when it’s attached to everyone’s sports team, not politics or religion.

The "two finger" salute by Ken McDonald with a smirk as he gave his Nay for thee vote.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfo...20carbon%20tax.
He knew what he was doing.
No. 416 Opposition Motion (Carbon taxes) Yea Negatived October 4, 2023
No. 197 Opposition Motion (Tax exemption on home heating fuel) Yea Negatived October 24, 2022
Just a reminder on the Avalon MP's voting record, he was for Conservative opposition motions until he got what he wanted from the Liberal side, a regional exemption that benefited him politically.
McDonald's own words just a month ago.
Quote:
Ken McDonald, MP for Newfoundland and Labrador's Avalon riding, voted with the federal Conservatives on Wednesday on a non-binding motion to repeal the carbon tax, the only member of the Liberal, NDP or Bloc Québécois caucuses to do so. Speaking with CBC News on Thursday, he said he believes the policy will cost the Liberals votes in the next election.
"Everywhere I go, people come up to me and say, you know, 'We're losing faith in the Liberal party," McDonald said in an interview with the CBC's Power & Politics.
"I think they will lose seats not just in Newfoundland, not just in Atlantic Canada, but indeed right across the country if they don't get a grasp on this the way that I think they should.… And if if an election were called today, I'm not sure if the Liberal party would actually form the government."
"He's not, because he's so entrenched in it," McDonald said. "And I get it, where he came from, and his whole idea of making a big difference in climate change, but you can't do it all overnight. You can't make it more expensive on people than what they can handle. And that's exactly what's happening right now."

I think the BQ vote against the Conservatives' motion has a lot to do with climate change, insofar as most Quebeckers think carbon emissions are a grave problem, more Quebeckers believe human industry causes climate change than residents of any of province, and more Quebeckers believe that fossil fuel production and use should be eliminated than residents of any other province. So, the BQ votes the way Quebeckers would.
It's very convenient for Quebeckers to believe in this, because generally carbon taxes impact them less than just about anyone else in the country because of the heavy reliance on their hydro-electric power grid. But that's neither here nor there.
Ultimately, are the BQ voting against the Conservative motion because they want to "be divisive", want certain Canadians to get tax breaks while others don't, or want to sow chaos? No. No, the explanation is a lot simpler than that: the BQ are a Quebec party, and they don't give a #### about any other Canadians. We don't even factor into their decision making. They don't think about us in the slightest.

What do you mean "give him another chance?" The dude has been a sitting MP since 2004 and has absolutely proven he's a POS on multiple occasions.

Scratching his head at a perfectly opportune time is just easy cover for the message he was truly sending. You're delusional if you buy into the head scratch excuse.

Anybody who thinks Ken McDonald tried to surreptitiously flip the bird at the Conservative caucus by holding up both his index and middle fingers is a complete ####ing moron.
