He would be allowed if he was a bit cooler. A little more nonchalant. I’m thinking we throw the guy an apple and have him chomp through that while answering (or hell, not even attempting to answer) questions and this all gets forgotten about in two seconds flat.

Also a reminder that the Liberal government tried to shut down the investigation into ArriveCan.

Are people honestly naive enough to believe the CPC won't have their own corruption scandals, for which they'll try to shut down investigations? Or are these all the same people who look the other way when the UCP does shady stuff?

God i hate political grandstanding in parliamentary hearings (this applies for Libs, Cons, NDP, Dems, Reps etc.)

I mean, I appreciate this isn't a court, but jesus. Barrett is mad that he isn't answering questions when in reality they are bad questions.

Have you used relationships to get work?
"what's a relationship?"
- totally reasonable follow-up to a broad question. no sense in getting angry, just ask an actual question.

Have you ever met with a government official in a private residence?
"yes"
what was discussed?
.... when?

No establishment of any relevance to the bank records in the questions, but demands the committee order them?

My knowledge of procedures in these hearings is limited, but does this guy not get a lawyer? because some of these questions are straight up objectionable.

Larry Brock did a much better job of getting the answers he was looking for. Surprise... he's a lawyer

I think that a big part of the issue with these types of committee hearings and exchanges is the format itself. The members get 5 minutes and then in subsequent rounds they get another 5 minutes or sometimes only 2 or 3 minutes. It isn't like a court procedure where there is a lot of time allocated to questioning and being able to put together a logical flow to the questioning of witnesses. I've seen some committee hearings recently where a witness goes off on tangents answering questions and it eats up most of the time for the member which is often why they try to get simple yes or no answers.

Again, if corruption is really your highest priority, then there's only one party that hasn't demonstrated corruption, and it ain't the CPC.

Witnesses going off on tangents is usually the fault of the questioner. You could see that with Barrett; but it's cause he sucked at it.

I think the looming issue is that for the last three days the Liberal MPs and Trudeau have been adamant that there would be no further exemptions or carve outs to the carbon tax.

It should be used at the right then when the NDP are no longer needed to support the government to point out during an election that the NDP is willing to work with the Cons to dismantle the climate change policies.
