Lifetime In Suspension

On the back of the Rasmus suspension now the Flames may get the rep as one of the dirtiest team in the league. At least that’s an identity right?

McCann finished the game and played about 5 minutes less than his average for the season. It was early in a scoreless game and Mangiapane was kicked out, missing most of the game.
I don't know if he has any previous disciplinary history, but if not, that will also play a factor.
Andersson was treated harshly because of the timing of the hit and the resulting injury. I don't think they'll hit Mangiapane as harshly because those weren't factors in this situation.
My guess is 2 games (which likely means it will be 3).

Oops, yeah. It's a phone hearing, not in-person, so the maximum is 5 games.

I agree injuries shouldn't matter, although in this case it might indicate that the blow wasn't as hard as it might have looked. If Mangiapane uses strength or weight in that position, it's a severe injury.

Crosscheck to the back of the neck while the player was stomach down on the ice.
I'd be surprised if it was as few as two games. This isn't a play that can be tolerated in the NHL.

Was a stupid play. One of my fav players but such a stupid thing to do. Should be worth 4 games.

Both former Barrie Colts - maybe there's something in the water there.

I agree, it wasn't any part of a hockey move. Elbowing a guy in the head is at least part of a hockey move.
And it looked like he sought out the neck area.

no it didn't...it looked like he was trying to get body and it slipped
he is still responsible though
My guess would be four, he has no history as far as I know
some of the stuff that happens around the net that goes unpunished is crazy though

Honestly I don’t think this hurts us sadly.
Outside of game 1 Mangiapane has not been much of a factor.

Needs to be min 4 games. Maybe he can use the time to reset, focus his game and come back really to play hockey.

Which is a hell of thing, because he's our leading goal scorer.
He's also been the most consistent forward this season. Whether he's playing with Lindholm and Huberdeau or Backlund and Coleman, his line drives play.

0 games because the Flames just had a player suspended.

"The Department of Player Safety has concluded that Rasmus Andersson's earlier suspension for charging will count as "prior relevant history" for the crosschecking call on otherwise first offender Mangiapane. As such, the Department of Player Safety suspends Andrew Mangiapane for 268 games."

With most plays that warrant a suspension, players are often in motion and hitting a guy who is carrying the puck and could be argued there was a hockey play and split-second decisions involved.
In Mangiapane's case, the other player was flat on his belly facing away from Mangiapane, had no prior interaction with Mangiapane in the 5-10 seconds before the hit and there wasn't any kind of hockey play to be made with that hit.
Mangiapane had plenty of time to decide what to do, and still chose to go for it. To me, it doesn't matter if the player was injured or not, because Mangiapane can't know what injury could result. Since it was a downward hit, there was also gravity on his side and thus his full body weight potentially into the unprotected neck ahead.

I think 2 games as well. Been got 2, and you can argue it both ways with him. Playoff games are obviously a bigger penalty, but in his case, it was malicious, with the puck nowhere near the play any longer.
Mangiapane was seen looking for the puck, and though completely idiotic and reckless, he wasn't 'malicious', and he did stand up and play the puck right away that squirted out.
Benn had intent to injure. Mangiapane had a reckless brain fart. I would be surprised with 4, especially since McCann returned.

I actually had to look. But yes he’s right up there.
I’m a bit frustrated with dube and mangiapane. Maybe I’m getting biased.

2 playoff games is huge compared to now
How do you decide malicious. You don’t do that to the guy’s neck and claim no intent

I'm not sure that there is much difference between intentional and reckless brain fart?
Are you suggesting that Mangi did not intend to cross check him in the neck? Because a player must be deemed to intend the natural consequences of his actions, and cross checking a player in the neck can easily cause substantial damage.

There was no slip. He might claim to be aiming for the back but he cross checked directly to the player's neck area. Agree on 4 games (which makes it 5 total). Very dangerous, undisciplined play.
