I feel like the Flames/Huberdeau owe Vanessa a cheque for that bit of work. Though my main takeaway was really how awesome a player Gaudreau was for the Flames not having all these same issues and creating tons from nothing.
On the bright side, this article is another arrow in the quiver to argue for the Flames transitioning to a younger, faster, more entertaining style/team. If that happens, we'll all probably be happier for it, even if it means a couple more losing seasons.

Who cares what OneDrive thinks.
But Sutteeeeeeeeeeeeer does so so so much.
The crying for Sutter is embarrassing. He clearly a huge problem, not the only problem but a big one.

I was of course joking but I really wonder if the Flames did any diligence on the guy at all. Just looked at his stats?
Did they watch any tape? Talk to anyone?
The trade is one thing but inking him to that deal without a single game as Flame is just egregious.

All I know is, right now, the guy I saw in Florida, is pretty much the same guy I’m seeing in Calgary. It’s why I was not a fan of the trade dating all the way back to when it happened. The difference is, a lot of his random spinning passes actually connected on the stick of his teammates often springing them on breakaways or finding them cutting hard to the net.
I’ve also mentioned in the past that his biggest strength is probably his ability to find the trailer jumping into the play. But like I said the other day, his line would be better off coming up as a 5 man unit, that way, the trailer actually becomes a viable option. But whatever line he’s on, is having a hard time accomplishing that because the opposition is closing in on him quickly forcing him to make rushed passes and this turnovers.
That’s why it’s up to him to either hold on to the puck a little longer, drop down lower along the halfwall and make a play to his centerman or to take a hit to make the play. There’s lots of options available as opposed to blindly throwing it into coverage and turning the puck over.
To me, Huberdeau is the opposite of a process guy. I don’t like his process and if I was a coach, he would leave me frustrated 80% of the time. But you deal with the frustrations because his vision and the unique plays he can make going against the flow of the play can lead to a plethora of goals. But without the production, what is he bringing to the table outside of frustrations?

You get coached by Sutter long enough and the offensive instincts are just driven right out of you.
In the one season they scored goals it was one line that did it, largely because they just ignored what the coach was telling them to do.
That season they had the following for ESP/60
Johnny - 1st in the league
Tkachuk - 4th in the league
Lindholm - 26th in the league
The next three were
Mangiapane - 89th
Toffoli - 222nd in the league
Dube - 227th in the league
Thank god that first line just ignored the coach when it came to creating offence or that team would have been horrific from an offensive perspective. Your 5th best Even Strength scorer has on average 7 players on each team better than him.

They didn’t ignore him. Plenty of others scored for Sutter, Iggy, Kopitar, Carter, Richards etc. he went to several finals and won a couple cups.
He lost his mind and became stubborn and deserved to be fired but don’t make it sound like he doesn’t know what he was doing.

So of the 6 players you included:
Four had a better ESP/60 rate than expected.
Two were worse.
So Sutter sucks?

I don't think they were ignoring Sutter. Sutter isn't the type of coach to just let players ignore him even if they are producing. I think Sutter just loosened the reins on them because he could trust that they could do their thing and still be reasonably responsible defensively.

I'd welcome the guy back. He fits better for the lineup we have. Huberdeau might fit better in CBJ as well, given they have many more young and fast players to attack the middle.

In a second. Gaudreau is the better player, smaller cap hit, and less term.

I'd even go so far as to eat part of Huberdeau's contract to make it more palatable for CBJ.

Bring back Sutter, and hope that Huberdeau retires...
I dislike this player more than Brouwer or Neal...

Fat chance he'd leave $84MM on the table.
So the Flames can pay $4.2MM per season on Sutter also, and blow a gazzillion dollars .

Something just seems off with this team’s chemistry. Like way off. Maybe once some of the tenured guys are gone, Huberdeau starts to find his game.

Maybe he could develop an equipment allergy or just be "unfit to play" like Mike Smith, and take LTIRetirement. Then he can go lounge on the beach in Florida and take cool lessons from Matthew Tkachuk.

The whole concept of catering your team around Huberdeau is getting tiring (yet I understand why given the ridiculous contract) but at some point people need to realize that it's him that's the problem. We fired the coach who was apparently limiting his skillfulness and restricting his offensive abilities and he's continued to prove nothing at this point.
He also went back to his natural position and yet we continue to hear things like his line-mates are the problem. At this point it is 100% on the player. No more excuses - he just flat out doesn't have it as a Calgary Flame.
Frankly I'm not pleased that he wears a letter. He's shown nothing as a Flame and why exactly is that being rewarded? He's expected to put up points given the contract, but at this point I'm willing to accept a player who doesn't add negative value to the team. He's lifeless out there and the coach wouldn't even put him out with the goalie pulled last night. I'm guessing he's not going to return to his Florida numbers but not being a liability would be a step in the right direction. -11 ten games into the season is pathetic.
