What is an appropriate punishment for a 7 year old that was just caught stealing Halloween candy off the top shelf for the past week with a pile of wrappers found under her bed?

Think cancelling trick or treating might be a bit harsh but she’s definitely not keeping and of the candy she gets.

We got some guy in our neighbourhood who has a GIANT haunted house. Like spends 2 weeks. Makes it super difficult as the cost is like $200 to hand candies out do to the volume he brings in. This is the second year in a row we go dark and I always feel like a heel.

If she was made aware of the candy’s location and it was in a place she could get ahold of it, I’d say this is a clear cut case of entrapment.

Frankly, I don’t even buy these phoney accusations.

Sounds like OP is making sure they post their cover story to CP. They’ve already admitted to planting evidence to frame the poor 7 year old. Once she denies it, OPs gonna point to this post as cover story to deflect suspicion from their spouse. But really it’s part of the long con to eat all the candy and have this innocent little girl take the fall.

Clearly the failure is your poor teaching on how to dispose of evidence. You owe her more candy and some proper coaching.

I say this as a child who could never be kept out of treats in the house… I still can’t as an adult, but isn’t that the whole point of becoming an adult? You finally get to eat all the candy you could ever want?

Sounds like a mom and dad tax should be enacted. You get to pick 20 candies or whatever amount of your choosing.from her haul tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice. You guys crack me up.

Chocolates were on a top shelf I can barely reach. She had bring out her steps and then climb onto the stove top to reach. Can’t get too mad over something I would have done myself (although I would have hid the evidence better) and upping the dad tax seems appropriate.

I'd be tempted to up the dad tax a touch, and hold her candy from tomorrow night to 'verify funds' for a week...the week that she was eating early.

May be a bit harsh, she did show ingenuity in getting to the candy without either parent being the wiser for a week. Maybe hold her candy access for 2-3 days.

I felt bad for making kids carry the weight of a 355ml can and changed my approach.

The stupid dancing and hand gestures suck.

If anyone is looking for a good place for non traditional candies (tiny chocolate bars, tiny chips etc) check out the warehouse store. I go to the one at Barlow and 32nd every year.
I got full size airheads, fizz candies, sweet tarts, little pop bottles with candies in them and bottle caps. They have all the candies that corner stores get.

Every year I also have a little treasure chest for the tiny kids so that they can choose other things. They love it and it makes them feel special. This year I have ring pops in there with stickers, tattoos and rubber bugs and snakes.

People in the comments say they’ve been doing it for awhile and it’s quite popular, so I guess good for them?

She’s definitely a wannabe influencer. It must be exhausting to be constantly seeking clout.*

Had 60 kids in suburban Brisbane Australia. Far cry from 10 years ago when one neighbour showed up and I gave them a can of grape Fanta found at the back of the fridge. Started giving three mini chocolate bars each but had to cut back to two. Was one of only two houses on our street that didn’t run out of candy.

Halloween is really starting to take off here. Best part is having real bats flying around.

Have fun in Calgary!
