100% the right call was made with Sutter, but it appears they may have underestimated his impact on team performance, which shaped decisions in the off season revolving around a bounce back season.
Lessons weee not learned in the Geoff Ward era (who had a better roster).

Now Backlund is a dude I legit feel bad for. Hoodwinked into an extension with the C as the carrot. Clearly was on the fence but signed before he could witness this unmitigated train wreck of a team. Bought into the love and rainbows pre-season show and decided “hey- why not extend?”
10/10 times with the value of foresight of these first few games, this guy is going to free agency. Like… ouch bro. Bummer.

Thankfully most hockey players are pretty dumb and over value themselves
The danger is probably in them listening to their agents who are probably screaming at them to sign

Bull####.
"Toxic" is the bull####iest word in the modern age.
He called guys out for being selfish whining losers. Those selfish whining losers had their agents publicize their selfish whining losery. "I'm not having fun anymore, wah!" Or they just quit on their team entirely.
If anything this organization as it stands is toxic. It enables cry baby losers.

Even if its a "bad trade" it was better than signing him. Third round pick is unknown

Did I say we should have kept him? Nope. I did say he wanted to stay. Did Hall have the value that Toffloli did? Why would you even compare them? What a silly arguement.

Agreed. Hopefully he asks for a trade and they grant it. Would like to see him win a cup

Flames can still sign Lindholm and Hanafin
just to lower contracts with zero trade protection

Or are we talking about the various coaches that are still around and playing a bigger role in this now dog #### team?

I heard something about even equipment staff not being fond of Sutter.
The coach issues were pretty widespread around the team. Not just the assistant coaches (including the now HC).
And yeah, we just have stupid San Jose in our way now.. They're going to be tough to beat.

Too many players who can’t handle the Canadian market pressure on this team.
Same roster would play in the States and would be top 5 in the league.
Hopefully Flames brass start looking at a player’s make up more instead of the usual compete level, hockey IQ and skills when drafting or trading
Been a Flames fan since 72 and this year my GAF meter is the same as most of the players on this team!

Never underestimate the pleasure some get from convincing themselves that they were 'right' and the need to tell everyone all about it.
that's the good #### right there.

Decent players didn't have much value this past summer, that was an example...there are more. Vegas basically gave away Reily Smith
Toffoli said give me a long term deal or trade me
we can debate the trade but its not really the hill to die on. They are still way better off than if they signed him.
The fact that he is lighting it up IN A CONTRACT YEAR playing with superstar young players isn't really relevant to the Flames at all. It maybe wasn't the perfect outcome but signing him would have been a thousand times worse.

I think this is the first time the Flames have ever been as low as 31st in the league this deep into the season.
