He was great off the bat. But I suspect he'd have never broken 100 like Tkachuk has twice now. His speed and position and playing style kind of ensured he'd never play full seasons later in his career. The discussion was "elite" and I don't think Monahan would have ever been considered elite.

A sports team can sell wins or sell hope.

This franchise has neither in its current form.

I don't think a new barn will fix this mess.

Agreed. Who wants to pay more and continue to watch an inferior product.

What would a guy like Rasmus Andersson bring back in a trade I wonder?

You can probably look at the Chychrun return.

1st + 2nd + 2nd.

Defencemen in that tier, with term left, generally seem to always return about that or an equivalent to that.

It's also why I think Hanifin is going to return a 1st + 2nd (or equivelant), because he doesn't have term remaining.

He would have a huge demand.

Essentially all the guys you don't want to move will have a market and vice versa.

I think Andersson is worth more than Chychrun. He’d be the best dman traded in a long time. He isn’t a top pairing D. He is a #1D

He's not a #1 D on any playoff team.

If you trade Andersson, you might as well trade all of the pre-Huberdeau and pre-Kadri players. I can't imagine it is good for the locker room and team morale when you have to start trading the long time Flames because the two new guys aren't pulling their weight and are untradeable.

I’ll agree to disagree. He’s not Makar but he’d be #1 on the Leafs, Florida, Edmonton, Minnesota, Seattle. Toss up on others.

I think that’s probably a bit of a Flames fan bias.

I said playoff teams.

He's not better than Reiley or Brodin.

CZ was bang on. If the Chychrun deal is on offer, you take it immediately.

I’d take him over either of those two

Andersson is not a #1 on a contender. Andersson doesn't make a playoff team a contender and doesn't make a bubble team a playoff team.

He's a really good player but he's not elite.

If Montour's last year isn't a mirage, I'd take him over Andersson pretty easily. Remains to be seen of course but he's just a more physically and offensively gifted version of Rasmus. And I'm a big fan of his.

A second line centre on NJ, a first line centre on other teams.

Marner turned 22 today, Anderson turned 27 today.

Teams would line up to get Mercer.

Anderson is good, but he is a finished product.

Mercer has way more trade value.
