2023/24 No Hope Flames Rumours & Speculation Thread
If you feel there’s no hope for the Flames then this trade & spec thread is for you!
Discuss all the ways you feel the Flames are going in the wrong directions, or just no direction at all. Until you see the team reach true official guaranteed cup contenders, those shall find this thread a place of peace and understanding instead.
What are everyone’s thoughts on no hope? Does no hope = hopeless, or is there room for nuance where you can have no hope but it not be hopeless?

The Flames push for a playoff spot, trade away assets, don't make the playoffs, lose players as UFA'S, draft 15th again.
The "just make it 8n because anything can happen" mentality continues to keep the Flames in mediocrity.

As much as I approve of this threads intentions to keep the miserable crowd out of the actual trade rumours thread they are still going to peddle their bs there because they want the reactions.

The team has it's two most overpaid players signed for the next 6 and 8 years respectively. Both players are post apex. One is the third most overpaid player in the league. The other is also significantly overpaid. The contracts will only get worse with time.
Instead of genuinely coming to terms with how awful the roster is positioned, the front office hired themselves to conduct an investigation to decide if the problem was the coach the owner hired or team roster that the front office constructed. The front office then obviously found that they have a great roster and the problem was the coach.
So now, instead of coming to terms with it's flawed roster of expiring contracts, bad contracts and lack of franchise players... the front office is trying to sign another late-20s, non-franchise forward to a long-term, big money contract.
It's a bold strategy. Let's see how it works out for them.

In fairness, I would probably lose all hope too if I was a Spurs fan.

I'm not sure about hope but to me there are just too many question marks. All the years watching hockey I think the teams that have the most things that have to go right are generally the ones who have the highest probability of busting. The Flames have new coaching which is a questionmark, Huby needs to bounce back and so does Markstrom, Kadri needs to GAF, Sharagonvich needs to replace Toffoli's career year and then you have bunch of young guys that are going to play. All this and then you have the elephant in the room which is a lot of key guys wanting out lately with no commitment to the team and many of the old crew have their contracts up soon. How's the room like in this situation? To me there's just too many things that have to go right.

Good thread. Good purpose. Will get mocked, misused and then buried. This is the way.

Current team is expansion team quality. We should be 10-20m under the cap with this level of talent. Treliving was a terrible gm. Can't wait to watch Coleman making 5mil for 4 more seasons. Only reason for me to watch this season is if Wolf is playing.
Of course it's the flames so we might just win the division again, preventing Conroy from selling anyone and continuing Trelivings frivolous ways.

Would a similar only positive takes thread be treated any differently? That's the problem when you want discussion, yet you only want one type of opinion on it.

Only if it’s along the lines of: “Flames have no hope of ever making a high pick work out for them, just look at Bennett! Faaailuree”

I think if Markstrom can have a good year, 2 or 3 younger forwards take another step (Pelletier, Coronato, Ruzicka) and the big dollar players like Huberdeau, Kadri and Mangiapani have up years the Flames could do some damage.
The UfA rats nest will be interesting. Still think a number will sign here (Lindholm, Backlund) Sucks we might lose Vladar. I really like him. Good team guy.
