I wish someone made a gif of Bean from his failure interview where he said something to the effect of "don't you want to see what a Vezina finalist goaltender can do with this team next year". That could be the opposite of the ring of fire song after wins.
19:00 minute mark.
"We have a Vezina nominated goalie!"
"We've got a really strong defence!"
"We've got a great lineup that underperformed!"
"You used the word, not me - I'm not allowed to ever use the word rebuild"
"Everyone a year ago said "holy mackerel"
I nominate this season be dubbed the "Holy Mackerel" season.
It was a pathetic, defensive, and dismissive interview from John Bean - and it shows just how out of touch this organization is with what it takes to win in this league.
I give props to Salim and Francis for asking about a rebuild. Bean talks about how the off-season of 2022 was a point of reflection as they weighed a rebuild offer that was on the table vs. the one they took. What a horrific miscalculation by the management of this team, and then an even worse decision to double down on it this off-season. This team is under the control of people who have zero understanding of what it takes to win.
If they don't rip this thing down to the studs beginning right away, they're hopeless. I just watched this interview all over again, and the anger I felt after watching this back when it happened had certainly faded...but holy mackerel, what a calamity.
Attendance got questioned as well, as the crowds were soft last year. Hope Bean is enjoying the attendance to start this season.

Don Maloney is the personification of old white man privilege imo. Negative value add. Zero talent. Track record of little to no success. Some how gets to keep his job and gets continuously promoted. Gets paid to talk bs.

Don Maloney has always been mentioned as having a ton of respect around the league, and he won the GM of the Year in 2010. Not his fault he works for a jackass owner.

I don't see any reason why Montreal would do either of those deals. What's the benefit for them?
Well that's a depressing thought.
I guess for Montreal, they would get francophone players, which they value.
In the Huberdeau trade they would be moving 12M in bad contracts for 10.5M in a bad contract. Also, there has to be at least some chance that Huberdeau could bounce back to a point per game player in a new situation. If they don't think this is possible, then yeah, not much chance of this happening.
As for Pelletier, I would hope that one of the Flames top prospects, who they drafted with a first round pick and has now developed into an NHL ready player, would be worth a first two years from now.
I had a less than satisfactory chat with the Flames CEO at the game last night, not about team, but about the Flames plans for allocation of season tix in the new building.
I am really annoyed right now. I might post about this further.

Doubtful
Most teams will prefer a first over a guy drafted late in the first unless that player is blue chip. Pelletier is not.
Huberdeau would light it up and we would be bumping the trade thread every day
Don't care....at least we only suck for 4-5 years rather than 10...
Mark my words...Huberdeau and Kadri will be the most hated players in franchise history if they play out their contracts. Pay whatever you need to get rid of these bums and focus on the future like some of us have been asking since Chucky wanted out..

Paying whatever it takes to get rid of 10 and 91 would be far more detrimental to the Flanes than just having them play out their contracts.
Too many people are focused on only 17.5m of the cap, two players that are going to remain in our top 6 forward group until dethroned. Really no point on considering the thought of trading, retaining, dumping, or any other method of removing their contracts until we have players that have proven they are better than the current group we have. Pelletier, Ruzicka, Zary, Coronato, Honzek, etc. need to show they deserve those top minutes. Until then we cannot consider the thought of moving said cap dumps.

The time to give people like that long term deals is quickly approaching, and it's going to be much more difficult than it ought to be because of these retirement deals.

The Flames aren't going to struggle to pay any of those younger players. None of them are gamebreakers, and most of them haven't even established themselves as solid support players or NHL players. If they begin to show gamebreaker ability/potential, we're still likely talking 2-3 years from now before there's any effort to make long-term commitments to them...and the Flames won't be facing a cap crunch at that point.

With other contracts expiring before their own, allowing that allocation. And the further we can get into those contracts, the easier it will become to move them. Hopefully they are playing better by then. It's still early, both haven't even played 100 games for us.
