Anyway I've said my bit, Kadri has to get going...I think Huberdeau is headed in the right direction

critique play...calling players trash, quitters, ect. IMO doesn't make things easier for them, not that I think my CP post will change anything just getting it off my chest

Two guys quit on this team and it wasn't Kadri or Huberdeau, I feel like SOME of the criticism is people taking out their anger for something that wasn't at all their fault

Last year Kadri sure seemed to have quit on the team

I’m talking about things like nonchalant turnovers and failure to bother chasing the play, coasting and watching the goal against that cost them the game

His -19 was team worst last year, contrasted to Backlund’s +24. I’d love to say he has wiped the slate clean and started fresh, but his zero points and team worst -4 through the first 3 doesn’t really inspire confidence.

Choosing a paycheque elsewhere to me isn’t anywhere near as egregious as continuing to cash that cheque but not appearing to have any interest in living up to it

Kadri needs to start pulling his weight. Insane to get such a big contract and not produce!

And...that -19 was incredibly sheltered. Here is the list of Flames forwards who played more than 40 minutes the entire season at 5v5 and had a lesser percentage of defensive zone starts than Nazem Kadri:

Milan Lucic
Walker Duehr

It's strange to me because when he was signed so many people in the media, and within the NHL said how intense he is, how much pride he has, etc... Sure doesn't look like it. Maybe he's a guy who would get a fire lit under his ass if the coach sat him for a game or two.

I think we need to find someone that he has some chemistry with. Watching him this year, there are times he explodes and gets open ready to take a pass in stride, but that pass never comes. I am guessing he is getting frustrated by that. Or at least that is what I hoping...

I just go back to what Treliving said when we signed him. A player who is not afraid of the spotlight and wants it.

We are missing that part of his game in a big way. Not sure he is a quitter but he was openly pouty when we given lesser linemates but it was deserved.

I think the points will come, but he needs to play that gritty game get in the other teams top players faces and draw some penalties. Get the other teams bench riled up and get them running around. Bring emotion to the game.

Right now he is out of for a public skate.

Britney or Naz - hard to say who's game has declined more over the past year. What happened to Britney? Very sad tbh. She was so special.

Huberdeau’s is harder to justify for sure and yes you will find his name on basically every list for worst contracts but it’s still early and he’s in good spirits right now, it’s coming. He’ll never be a McDavid but with Hubie it’s between the ears right now and as soon as he can just relax a bit he’ll start hitting those passes more and hopefully that’ll get his shot going too.

Everyone needs to chill, stop being haters, we’re 500 through 3 games with only one of those played at home.

I certainly wouldn't trade Huberdeau for Nurse who is somehow 10 on that list...THW is a bit of an Oiler fanboy site

They are using Huberdeau's last year stats with his this year salary

I mean if he gets 55 points again yes his contract is brutal but his production/salary last season was okay. If he is PPG plus his contract isn't even bad.

I know, I said Huberdeau’s name is basically on every list. Of course he would be, he’s getting paid to be a megastar and isn’t showing that…yet…but have faith.

The main point is Kadri’s contract isn’t on any list that I’ve seen. In fact I even read over a long Reddit thread that went through tons of players but no one mentioned Kadri.

Just funny because CP thinks he’s the worst contract in the league, worse than Darnell Nurse and yet that is not a popular opinion, or much of an opinion at all, outside of this fanbase. The bigger point is, this fanbase over hates on Kadri. He gets it way worse than any player, even Huberdeau.

Huberdeau contract hate I understand, 8 years is just starting now and it’s A LOT of money, so I get it, but we have to believe he’s only going to get better as he gets more comfortable. Confidence and clicking with his linemates is his main issue.

That's the point

HUBERDEAU HAS PLAYED 3 GAMES ON HIS CURRENT CONTRACT

obviously not enough to make a call either way

Is it the worst contract? Nope.

It is a bad contract? Probably.

$10.5M for 82pts is not great in my opinion especially when that player is a fairly one dimensional winger. That is the minimum he needs to return to but ideally he averages 95pts per year over the next 3-4 years slides down to 75-80 for the next 1-2 years and still putting up 60-70 towards the end.

It is too early for the reactions but most fans can’t be patient. I think it will take Huby at least another 6-7 games to really feel comfortable and hopefully when that happens we see a big uptick in multi point games and very few games where he is not on the scoresheet.

The thing with those contracts are you are paying him for what he has done not what is expected. I think getting 1-2 years of prime production with a player in their 30's is fair but to expect 115 points on a ongoing basis is unfair.

Thats why the Tkachuk deal looks great because you are paying him for what he will do and shown he can do.

The Gaudreau deal would have been just as bad.

McDavid will probably end up sucking as well midway through his deal.

Well I don't see this happening because he is already halfway through his deal. I also don't see this happening halfway through his next deal. I can't stand the guy but his game is not falling off a cliff anytime remotely soon.

The minutes on his body the wear and tear will hit him when he hits 30.

He doesn't strike me as someone who takes care of his body like a Lebron James.

He plays easy minutes. He's not as reckless as he once was, and he's never back checked. He'll play till he's 40 or older if he wants.

No matter how easy his minutes or how soft his play, McDavid's not going to have that burning speed anymore in his thirties. At some point, he'll either fade slowly back into the pack of merely good players, or else blow a gasket from carrying Edmonton on his back and check into a psych ward for hockey burnouts.

The bum only has 4 pts in 4 games. And they're all even strength. Pathetic loser can't even score on the PP.
