The first two seasons of Picard are absolutely baffling. Like...seriously WTF was that ####?
The first two seasons...I dont know WTF they were going for, those seasons introduced characters that sucked and nobody cared about, made Picard a robot and god only knows what else...just a complete waste of time, which I normally wouldnt care about too much except these actors are ANCIENT, they dont have much time left to waste!
The deal with Picard seasons 1 and 2 was that they let Patrick Stewart have significant creative control.
He had 2 stipulations right off the bat. No uniforms, and no Star Fleet ships. If you read some of the unauthorized history of TNG books, it comes out that the man is very VERY different than Captain Picard.
Like he met a writer for the first time who had been hired for "Captain's Holiday". The first words out of Stewarts mouth were "The captain needs to fight and f--k. Get to it!"
Then, when shooting the episode, he had an affair with the actress playing Vash, and it resulted in the breakup of his marriage.
This is not someone who should be writing for a show. Acting - 100%. But not writing. Any more than you want your head writer appearing on screen.
Mix in a writers room with no background on TNG, DS9, or Voy, and who tailor the show to violence and little else - and you wind up with that nonsense.
As for Discovery - it's the only Trek show I've ever stopped watching. In the last season I was fast forwarding half the episodes because there were so many characters I absolutely HATED. They behaved nothing like Star Fleet officers would.

Kayshon, His Eyes Open! For a Trekkie, this is like hearing how Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher had a thing going on during ANH. I'm going to watch those Vash episodes in a new light now. Also, instead of getting a new TV I should go find and read these books! Which ones in particular?

Patrick Stewart, when her clothes fell off and has seen everything.
I can only imagine the Picard S1/S2 writing room being the same way with Patrick Stewart at the helm penning the screenplay.

The Fifty-Year Mission: The Next 25 Years: From The Next Generation to J. J. Abrams: The Complete, Uncensored, and Unauthorized Oral History of Star Trek
I listened to the audio version while walking to work. They were great.
Wasn't a great episode, and I found myself pretty bored by it. But you're going to get those once in a while.
Its just the way it is.
Whenever I get a bad episode, I generally look up who wrote or directed the particular episode to get to know who is good and who is bad.
Like for example, many times in watching Picard s1 or s2 I would look up the writers and their biggest claim to fame was writing for Desperate Housewives and I was like WTF why are these people writing Star Trek??
Then for season 3, I looked up Terry Matalas and watched his Youtube interviews and knew everything would be okay because his office background was full of hardcore nerd stuff that only someone who cares deeply about something would own.
Now all I want is Terry Matalas to be in charge of the Transformers movie because he keeps prominently displaying giant Unicron and Optimus Prime figures behind his desk as well as confirming that shows in Picard S3 were inspired by Transformers the Movie 1986.
It's a 2-parter and he only showed up at the end of the episode, so they didn't have any Paris jokes yet. I'll be surprised if they don't have any in the next episode (which I believe is also the finale).
