Guy has had some bad injuries, he's approaching the wrong side of 30 for a hockey player, he's won a cup, he's on a retirement contract.
Hope is all that's left.
I don't think he's a toxic presence or anything, I just don't see what his motivation is.

And I think this the reason Tre signed him, because he thought he needed to replace that pest personality that we lost in Tkachuk. Kadri just didn't bring that part of his game with him.

New Neal, but a center which probably makes it worse.
Can't believe Tre got out from his mistake of signing Neal with Looch finally expiring but set the Flames up with an even worse contract before jumping ship.
He sure did well learning from that one..
At least do us a favour and make a whole bunch of similar mistakes to #### the Leafs long term too.

Could you imagine what would happen if he scored a hat trick tomorrow night. Followed by 2 goals and a massive momentum changing hit on Friday.

The other part that I don’t like about Kadri is, if we re-sign Lindholm, where can we ever slot in a guy like Zary or Honzek if he gets developed as a C?
We will have Kadri, Lindholm and Backlund hogging all the C icetime for next 2-3 years..
In my mind it would be nice to have Lindholm and Backlund insulating a young guy who can take some of those remaining top 9 C mins.
I realize they still need to earn it first but the point still stands.

Start a kid at 4C.
Move one of the vets to the wing.
Move a vet to 4C.
Trade a center.

Who knows, it sounded like Tre might have been backed into a corner and finally made the choice to jump ship.
Sounded like ownership was heavy handed in forcing him to hire Sutter as well as getting into a lot of the decision making. He did his best to stay in the "win now" mode by acquiring the best talent he could that year and by numbers Huberdeau and Kadri were considered by everyone in the hockey world to be a huge win for the Flames that season.

I actually like Kadri on this team. I think/hope last year was an outlier. He has shown his value when the stakes are higher than at the start of the regular season.

Can we get rid of Kadri and sign Lindy? Because that’s what I want.
I don’t even mind Kadri as a player but I don’t think he’ll ever play to that contract. In terms of value, there’s a chance the flames never enjoy a year in which they get fair value or he outperforms his contract.

I see a lot of glimpses of things I like in Kadri's game. I think he's a decent 2nd line center and he is paid accordingly. So far this season has been a bit disappointing from both Kadri, and Dube.
That said, it's a very small sample size, and Kadri looked like our best player in the preseason. I think he will figure things out, and that a line with him Lindholm and Huberdeau can be absolutely dynamite.

No? 6 years x $7 million with a NMC?
It was all set up for the Flames after the Tkachuk trade. Flip Huberdeau with 50% retained for a 1st and some shiny prospect, keep Monahan and that 1st, and leave Kadri alone. We'd have 2 1sts, something shiny, and all the Lucic/Monahan/Kadri money.
Instead, we have two retirement contracts until 2029.

Serious question....who is easier to trade?
Nurse with 7 years left with $9.25mm cap hit when he's 35?
or
Kadri with 6 years left with cap hit of $7mm when he's 38?

At this point we are going to be a flaming $$$ retirement home.
Huberdeau
Kadri
Coleman
Backlund (yeah okay, he deserves it after the years of service and he's still good)

- Zary already isn’t here because Huska didn’t want to put him on 4th line
- Backlund Has shown he suck’s on the wing but ok yea we can with others but then we might have too many wingers..
- you really see Backlund, Lindholm or Kadri on 4th line?
- if we re-sign Lindy it wouldn’t be him or the young kid. Do we trade our captain? Does anyone want Kadri? If they do how much salary are we retaining? Are we giving up another high pick to offload him this time?
My whole point is, out of every mistake Brad has made, the Kadri thing to me is the worst. Trading a 1st and fan favorite to sign a 32yo 2nd liner to max $ and term..
But I guess we already know this and I’m just beating a dead horse.

Kadri for sure. Nurse is barely bottom pairing worthy now in his prime, imagine what he will be like after 30.

If the league said each team had a compliance buyout, how would you handle things?
Or if there was a compliance buyout compensation penalty, like with offer sheets, what would be worth buying a player out? Buyout Kadri with nothing against the cap but it costs a 2nd round pick? What would be worth getting out of that deal?

I would give up 3 or 4 of my next 7 First rounders to get rid of both Huberdeau and Kadri.
