What a wild story. I can't imagine any other team would ruin their reputation by doing something like that.

Or ask a player to take less on a second contract because the team felt they overpaid him on the first one?
Or ask a player (same one as above) to return some money in order to get traded away after the team-based media made his hometown stay, unbearable?
Or tell a player to play through a neck injury and don't do an MRI on the neck until it gets to the point where the player can't hold a stick?
Or accuse a player of hyperbolizing an injury while he lays in the hospital with a staph infection?
Or promise a player he will have multiple high profile free agents joining him, all lies, and then having the press smear him on his way out after one year including ludicrous stories about getting local weather lady pregnant?
Or have multiple free agents back out after they hear the real story they goes on with the president meddling and telling top players to disregard the coaches?
Or firing a coach via Skype because they want to rush to hire a coach that the eastern media likes?
An organization that was tone deaf to the reality of 2000s NHL, stuck trying to emulate the vastly different on and off ice situations that their egotistical president experienced under Sather through the 80s.
Hardball with off ice situations thinking they were making some sort of moral stand, then different rules for top players then lesser ones, all contributing to terrible rudderless teams with no leadership and accountability. Players avoiding the organization because of the gong show behind the scenes, and due to that ineptness, landed multiple 1st overall picks until one was truly good enough to not crumble with the weight of the organization thrust upon them.

Summer of 2007: Media reports Oilers are going to sign Michael Nylander, but his wife vetoes the deal and he signs with the Capitals instead.
Summer of 2008: Focusing on trying to sign Hossa and/or Jagr, the Oilers fail to contact Curtis Glencross prior to July 1 about a contract extension and he signs with the Flames on July 2. Hossa signs with Detroit and Jagr chooses to go play in Siberia instead.
Summer of 2009: After requesting a trade from the Senators, Dany Heatley uses his NMC to block a trade to the Oilers.
Addendum -- Summer of 2017: Jagr signs with the Flames and says it has always been his dream to play for a team in a Canadian market.

I don't think they're better, but the competition is weaker with Colorado not being as deep and Vegas potentially having a Stanley Cup hangover. Definitely makes coming out of the West a lot more open.

McWhiningAssface will be 27 in January.
How old was 4 time stanley cup champion Gretzky when he was traded to the Kings?
27.
You could masturbate to how good the Oilers mediocrity is, even when gifted generational talent by way of a ####ing lottery. Watching that smug faced dip#### waste his career in Edmonton is as sexy as Megan Fox circa 2010

Surprise surprise. All of the TSN talking heads picked Oilers over Leafs in the cup final. Hilarious. They never learn.

Lol, the whole lot of them (Sportsnet/TSN) are all such predictable and pathetic homers. Every year it's Oilers this, Leafs that, Oilers, Leafs, Oilers, Leafs, McDavid, Matthews, yadda, yadda, yadda.
And every year it ends in crushing disappointment for them. It's glorious, and it'll never stop being funny.
