SN's production for the NHL has been pretty terrible and I won't argue against that, but if TSN gets the rights to broadcast more games, it's practically guaranteed that fans will then complain about how terrible TSN is.
Re: TSN, they still do a ton of regional coverage so if you like that, well, thats what the national coverage would look like. Its fine. Instead of Friedman & Maclean going gag over McDavid it'd be Duthie & Dreger.

If only CBC could come in a swoop away with more games.
Hockey night in Canada is head and shoulders above the competition and would allow for a larger audience with CBC Gem.
I think it's pretty clear Loubo has no time for Wills, and from what I'm told not too many people do.
Well in a tough, declining business Kelly Kersh needs to do what has to be done. I don't like calling for someone's job, but if it's one or the other? Then it appears the wrong guy left that broadcast booth. Kersh needs to right a wrong.
This team bounced around different play by play guys for a stretch. Loubo slides into that seat for the next 5 years easy.

Great one today with Loubo. Lots of good things brought up. Sounds like a bit of another of our sports personalities that got disgruntled and left the main stream for the same reasons as the others.
He's been disgruntled since he got let go from the PBP position over a decade ago.
I've never really been a fan (answering questions with questions in a tone of a parent that's not mad but disappointed ain't my thing), but I completely checked out on him the day he treated Pat Steinberg like a total a**hole on air because Pat had some fair observations about Kris Russell that Peter took the deepest possible personal offence to.
Some of the most brutal radio I've ever heard. Peter went after Pat hard and made it personal at times. After 15 minutes of it, Pat had to play it off like 2 good friends having a fun discussion when it sure sounded like he was on the verge of tears.
The tension between Peter Loubardious and Derek Willis was thick at times. You could cut it with a knife, and it didn't come across as a good working environment.
Another underlying message from the interview: Rogers sucks.
They have probably considered trying to pressure Pat Steinberg to do double duty -- hosting and colour.
I mean... I haven't listened to a radio in years. It's all podcasts, and I imagine I'm not alone... it's just easier and I pick what I want, and there's no commercials you can't skip over. I even pay for some of them, because I like that the money goes to the talent, rather than a corporation (hint hint Barnburner!)
It wasn't really a choice on my part to stop listening - the radio industry just died due to the technical shfit.
So the leftovers still working can be some pretty unhappy people who don't care much about professional conduct on air - because their bosses don't even listen, and they're paid peanuts. That's stressful and hard.
When Boomer packed it in, that was your canary in the coalmine. This is not a man who likes change.

I know it's sacrilege around here, but I have never really been a fan either.

Yeah I was kinda thinking this as well. I really liked Loubo when he did TV PBP for the Flames and was disappointed when he was let go, and I have no doubt Wills has a bit of a stick up his butt, he seems a little uptight. But I could also see Loubo having quite a temper on him, and checking in to work quite prickly on a few occasions, as well as some sour grapes watching Wills do what he wants to be doing.
Basically I could see both those guys being grating at times, by no means do I think it's just all because of Wills.
That Lanny interview was fun, but it really felt like it could have been a multi-parter.
Cool story bro time: My blood uncle is the same age as Lanny and played in the same minor hockey league with him in the 60s. Back then, when teams or leagues had tournaments in a single town players would stay with a hosting family if possible. As it happens, our family billeted Lanny McDonald for a couple days while his Hanna team played in a tournament in Trochu. My uncle said he was the best player he ever played against, and as a goalie he hated that he had to share food with a kid that scored on him at will.

The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
They were pretty harsh on Huberdeau and Kadri today, but I tend to agree with them. Their breakdown of Huberdeau's effort on Debrincat's 2nd goal is spot on, not to mention his pass right to the Wings directly led to Debrincat's hattrick goal.
Both these guys need to get going in a major way.

I'll say something that is obvious for ages, but the Flames have too much of the same type of player. Speed is what's needed. They keep adding old guys like that's the key to success but their young guys like Dube, and Mangiapane are also neither here nor there. Normally on a younger team those are the guys who you'd want on your 3rd line scoring. They haven't been particularly effective on this team in the past couple seasons and they don't provide an element of pressure and speed needed. They're drifters like many on the team. My hope would be to deal them at the draft for picks, or prospects.
