To be fair there have been so many seasons hard to watch that they all just blend together.

Great one today with Loubo. Lots of good things brought up. Sounds like a bit of another of our sports personalities that got disgruntled and left the main stream for the same reasons as the others.

That's a great point now that i think back. Feaster always seemed like an "aw shucks" guy that wasn't hard enough nor great at his job but was a nice dude. But that could have been an act. Easily.

That was a terrible team on paper and the expectations reflected that. Even in the bad years, Hartley got more out of that group than what should have been possible.

Interesting and honest comments. He wants to do play-by-play but was slotted as colour. Relationships with his "teammates" sounded strained or they didn't value him or his work.

I think i would take Loubo over Derek Wills as play-by-play.

My hot take has always been the good year was also bad. They got shelled every game and were the worst team on the ice most nights. Their metrics were near the bottom of the league. They got very lucky with shooting percentages and goaltending. And then faced a very weak round 1 opponent.

It's been crazy to me how Hartley has maintained this sort of aura like he was good here. No he was really really bad. Worse than Gulutzan or Ward. not even referring to how he dealt with people. But by the numbers as a coach he is one of the worst of the salary cap era.

They could hardly have had a worse record. Only one Flames team ever did worse.

I don't think he was worse than Gulutzan as far as player development goes. At least Hartley had Monahan, Gaudreau, and Bennett on track. Gulutzan basically flatlined their development or in the case of Bennett sidetracked his development. He basically wasted important growth years for the organization by developing nobody and making some players regress.

It just proves how starved for success we are. That lucky year is (tied for) the furthest our team has been in the playoffs in the last 19 years. Hell we've only made it past the first round three times in 30 years.

When they finally got around to talking about the Flames, when Loubo dropped an "intellectually honest," I let out a pretty hearty laugh.

I respectfully disagree .

The record was a function of the roster. Feaster blew up the corpse of a post apex team that had run its course.

The style of play post blow up, the good year, was a style built for an inexperienced roster and resulted in the stats.

They freely gave up the outside and collapsed a lot. High volume of low danger shots.

They also had emphasis on a fast transition. The old guys like Sarich complained that he didn’t want passes back in the zone

By contrast it was under Gulutzan where they had Smith in net, he’d take the puck, and both D would go in opposite corners so Smith could pick his outlet. That was seriously the strategy. Gave the opponents all the time in the world to set up. And pretty much no chance of developing odd man rushes from that state

It’s disingenuous to point at his record and say he is the worst. He had very little to work with.

Didn't listen to the radio broadcast often but any time I did Loubarias always had a comment or two towards Willis that was incredibly condescending.

My guess is Loubardious took the job on as color on radio with a promise that doing that for a couple years would get him back to get into a PBP gig somewhere at Snet, whether it be on the radio with the Flames, somewhere else, or on TV in some capacity.

Recall he jumped the queue and took over from Roger Millions somewhat quickly, and then was dumped for Rob Kerr, so he's seen both sides of how that goes on TV.
At the same time, I'm sure that Snet backed out of whatever promise they made him back when (Snet has changed a fair bit since then) and he didn't want to toil on radio behind Wills any more.

I think it's pretty clear Loubo has no time for Wills, and from what I'm told not too many people do.

Listening to the interview, I felt like Loubo took some indirect shots at Wills. Said that when he (Loubo) was doing PBP, he would just react and didn’t go off of a script. Felt like a dig at Wills. Wills seems to like “sticking to the script”.

Boomer also never asked him about his relationship with Wills, which I thought was interesting. They worked together for years.

I remember their first year together on radio (2014-15?), they seemed to almost be bickering. It got better throughout the years, but that always stuck out to me.

I could be wrong on all of this, but that’s kind of what I took from the interview. Loved the entire interview fwiw

The tension between Peter Loubardious and Derek Willis was thick at times. You could cut it with a knife, and it didn't come across as a good working environment.

Another underlying message from the interview: Rogers sucks.

They have probably considered trying to pressure Pat Steinberg to do double duty -- hosting and colour.

Best thing for canadian hockey fans will be the end of the 10 year agreement between the NHL and sportsnet. 3 more years

I'm definitely looking forward to more TSN coverage.
