Give him the Backlund contract. 2x3.5M would be alright

Lindholm, coming off 64 points, ain't worth 9.3AAV.

He can justify that with great sustained play starting this week, but im not sensing a selke runner up type of season coming from him so far.

Friedman notes he's heard "87.7M" as the next salary cap. We know the salary cap can only grow by 5% right now, so the current cap is at 83.5, add 5% and you get yourself to 87.675.

John Bean spoke pretty openly in the fireside whatever thing about 50/50 split actually being close to $100m, but that the 5% stipulation in the CBA extension will keep it increasing at 5%.

So we can probably pretty safely predict that these are the next 4 salary cap ceilings:

24/25: $86.675
25/26: $92.058
26/27: $96.662
27/28: $101.495

So I can see an argument where Lindholm is positioning his $9.3M ask as:

10.7%
10.1%
9.6%
9.2%

...and I still absolutely do not want a $9M Lindholm. He's not worth it today, and I don't think he's worth 10% or even 9% of the cap.
As a fan base we should only be talking as a % of cap. In 5yrs at 5% inflation in the league salary cap deals signed now are worth 27% less of the cap.

Bridge deals in Anaheim for their young players are even more eye brow raising now.

I’d like to see Lindholms GAF meter. Didn’t look very happy most of the time in preseason.

I don’t think there will be any reason to question Lindholm’s GAF meter. He’s headed into a contract year. Whether that gets him a deal here in Calgary or somewhere else, the time is now for Lindholm to floor it.

I would put very little stock into the preseason or how ‘happy’ he looks. It would be awfully shortsighted for Lindholm to get a little pouty.

The cap might get to 92 and that's when the CBA expires and outside the pandemic extension we have had a lockout everytime.

The NHL has won each negotiations big time and this pandemic extension seems to be the biggest win. New PA director will want to win some things for the PA this time.

Doesn't feel like the cap is hitting 100.

Bean already spoke to the fact that $100M is 50/50, but that the current CBA locks in a 5% growth. I imagine when the next CBA is negotiated, players will go straight to a 50/50 split again.

If it was that simple we would never have the lockout.

First it was a cap and linked to revenues.

Next it was a 50/50 partnership.

Now they have the 5% cap they won't just give it up and go to 50/50 they will ask for more. They got salary roll backs a cap roll back last time along with the contract length.

I don't like that...at all.

9MAAV x 6 would be fine, but I really dislike an 8 year contract at that AAV.

Is this from a source? That seems quite high given Schieffele’s new contract.

It’s not that. I’m just not sure if this is his opinion or something he’s passing along from a source in the know.
