Of all the weird things I never thought I'd see in this world, Nickelback apologists is near the top of the list.

Do you actually believe that there aren’t people who genuinely don’t like Nickelback, one of the most hated bands of all time?

Hockey kids under 25 probably have. Because like Motley Crue they've become an arena staple.

That’s true. Generic arena rock will always have a place in the arena. I’m sure in 15 years there will still be hockey kids jamming out to Imagine Dragons’ “thunder! feel the thunder! thunder! feel the thunder! thunder! feel the thunder!”

Pure poetry. Less rapey than Nickelback at least.

As an OG Nickelback hater I can say I've softened on them recently, primarily because Imagine Dragons exist. Nickelback are prime Pink Floyd by comparison.

A simple "Yes" would have proved my point.

People as free to not like anything they wish. But "one of the most hated bands of all time" is Hipster Doofus statement (you confused this with plain Hipster). Buying into the hype of internet culture makes you naïve, they still sell out shows all over the world.

Default Oilers to host Flames in 2023 Heritage Classic at Commonwealth

Wonder how a new arena playlist negotiation would go. i.e. Arena Rock Vs Nostalgic BS

“We’re willing to give up ‘Kick Start My Heart’, but we’re taking ‘The Good Old Hockey Game’.”

“Agreed, and we’ll give up ‘YMCA’ if you scratch ‘Feel The Thunder’.”

“Done. Where do we stand on AC/DC for any Organ covers?”

“This negotiation is over!”

It’s not some hipster doofus statement, Chad Kroeger himself explained why he thought the band was so hated. Even Nickelback has enough self awareness to know a lot of people did and still do hate Nickelback lol. The last time they were relevant was as a punchline.

I think you just have to accept that people don’t like the band you like, and that they aren’t liars because they don’t like the band you like. It’s gonna be fine.

Is Imagine Dragons like the wave? You can only play it if you're up a few goals?

I'll put it this way.

Some of their songs are written well. Even the haters know most of the radio tunes and their lyrics by memory (although could in part be a result of having it shoved down our throats in every retail space for two decades). When the song sticks, you can't call those songs entirely poor in concept, because it is succeeding at one of its goals. Something forgettable is certainly doing worse.

I think it's entirely on the delivery and sound of said songs produced by the band. Being that "hard" sounding while delivering sappy, melodramatic lyrics doesn't sit well with a number of people because of its contradictory sound in relation to what's written (kind of like what rubs some people the wrong way about new country, but dialed up to 11). Then when NB put out its "harder" lyrical songs like animal and whatever that other one was, it sounded like they were trying too hard to be bad boys now, but you couldn't unhear the other stuff that was their signature sound, so it was more cringe rather than cool. It also didn't help that image-wise they gave the impression of the backstreet boys if they came out of an alberta trailer park and posed as rockers. I honestly think that if they even presented themselves differently, people wouldn't be as hard on them.

But perhaps even more unfortunate for them, the Backstreet Boys have become cool in a nostalgic way over time, but the hate for NB has endured pretty well.

I don't think the hate Nickelback gets comes as much from the band itself, it was more the media overplaying them so badly. Having practically every non specialty radio station playing Nickelback 4 times an hour, every hour, for a decade drove people crazy.

I'd have liked to have seen someone who could use more exposure: Nice Horse, Reuben and the Dark, that kind of thing

I always blamed the CanCon rules. It was an easy way for stations to hit their %, back when we didn't have the options we do today.

He was still good enough to be enjoyable as a historical curiousity, but performing to a stadium full of people born after he was famous would be a disaster.
Tell that to the teenage kids who fight me for vinyl records at the thrift store

Didn't Nickleback play a Grey Cup Halftime? How many songs can they fit into a the second intermission? One.. two at most?

The NHL should do something different. Get Gurdeep of the Yukon and have everybody Bangra dance for 10 minutes...
