If you don't see the differences in those shots, there's not a lot else to be said.

Being overly defensive of Markstrom doesn't make sense at this stage. He's been the worst starting goalie in the league since Game 1 Vs. the Oilers. He needs to prove himself, and so far he's had a good game and a terrible game in pre-season. Nothing has been settled.

Markstrom needs to be better than last year, and we don't need to make excuses for him.
Good lord. Who's overly defensive? It was a bad goal. Bit if it had been just like Coronato's the complaints would be the same. No one would be saying "snipe".

Centre ice on a giveaway off a flubbed breakout (hence goalie deeper in net) v 45 degrees on a pass across - Hellebuyck clearly set.

The point is that because it's Markstrom, everyone pounces. Because it's Coronato, everyone cheers.
You can watch the video if you don't like the still. Gustafsson didn't have a breakaway; there were three Flames back. No one was between Coronato and Hellebuyck.

Whether or not Hellebuyck is good has little impact on the Flames chances. Markstrom needs to be better. I doubt anyone is talking about this if it was Dansk in net last night since he is being paid to be an AHL backup. We need better from a player making top dollar in the NHL.

I never said breakaway - I said flubbed breakout (by the Flames). The Flames were in their zone, but going the wrong way.

There was a guy between Coronato and Hellebuyck, at least one who tried (and failed) to get his stick in the lane. Coronato shot harder, but from an angle most goalies will stop. Gustraffson shot from the middle, so more net, but not as hard. Most goalies stop that too.

I think Hellebuyck looked worse on the rebound goal and the thrid one though.

Always allowed the first goal against early in the game despite outplaying teams by a wide margin. And it felt like every time the flames tied the game or took a lead… the opposing team would score 1 minute later.

It is still preseason and the team's making adjustments so there's going to be some breakdowns. New linemates missed assignments. I think some of Markstrom's issues last season could be partly attributed to some of the issues the team had last season. Hard to have confidence if your team's not scoring key goals, or people aren't feeling good about their play. Some guys were squeezing their sticks and some guys were, wanting to leave.

I am pretty sure the coaches don't just look at a potentially bad goal, but the factors and breakdowns that led to the situation.

Definitely he has to play better but I think he will with the right structure and support in front of him.
