One contract leaves him as a tradable asset if things go wrong the other is a anchor. If he really wants a cup 2x4.5 should make more sense to him. If it turns out it wont be in Calgary then hes still tradable.

Blue Jackets experimenting with Laine centering Gaudreau and Marchenko at the last couple of practices.
Reminds me of the times when fans suggested they convert Iginla to center.
Anyways looks like BJs still struggling to find a top line center.

Iginla grew up playing centre if I am not mistaken and was only switched to wing when he got to Kamloops.
So it wasn't too far of a stretch.

Their top two C last season were Jenner and Roslovic. So this isn’t exactly a surprise.
They knew they’d have to draft a #1C. Luckily, Fantilli fell into their laps. But they need to shelter him for a season or two.

Jenner probably plays #1C until Fantilli is ready, if he isn't yet. Which I could see him being even if it is with mistakes, it's not like Columbus is in a win mode this year so I doubt that is such a big deal.

It makes a lot of sense seeing the GM is likely on thin ice and may not survive a bad season. Would Lindy want to sign long term there? I'm not sure.

I love Backlund, but the idea that he will be effective until 38 or the market is dictating he needs a contract until then is false. Backlund is great but not Iginla, Pavelski, or Malkin.

There is something I have been thinking about recently as it pertains to Lindholm. We all need to remember the reason the Hurricanes dealt him to the Flames in the first place was a dispute on his extension with the Hurricanes. He ends up signing his long term deal with the Flames and fires his agent in year 1 of the deal when he broke out as a top line talent. Recent rumors are the Flames know what it takes to keep him and he is not budging from his stance. I assume Calgary is around 8.5-9 and Lindholm wants 9.5-10.
If/when the Flames extend Backlund they have 2 of their top 3 centers signed for a couple of years. Does it make sense for the Flames and Jackets to come together on a Lindholm for Sillenger ++ deal? The Jackets get a center who they can likely sign if they are willing who has chemistry with their top player. The Flames add a young center to their lineup who still projects to be a second line type with third line floor and likely some other solid futures. Calgary avoids paying the massive extension to Lindholm and get pieces for the future but also players who can help now so not throwing in the towel

I think he will sign anywhere that meets his demands.

Playing center in Bantam doesn't really count, considering Iginla was in Jr. as a 16 year old. Slight difference in the competition levels.

Yeah, I'd bet every NHL forward played centre as a 15 year old or younger.

If Lindholm doesn't want to re-sign then catching a GM desperate to keep his job would be a heaven send

What about Kent Johnson? Have they been using him as a winger?

I always figured he would be a winger at the NHL level.

If Johnson is too much to ask, I would still be fairly happy with Sillinger+Marchenko.
