Why on earth do people have any notion that Bryam would be available?

And unfortunately even though Bruins are in a bit of cap hell this season, things line up pretty nice for them to be able to add him next season.
They have the $4.5M from the Bergeron/Krecji bonus overages off the book, $3.0M from Derek Forbort, and $3.6M from Matt Grzelcyk expiring next year. Only $59M committed to the cap overall next season.
Really I don't think them going $7M+ for Hanifin will be an issue for them at all.
Lindholm-Mcavoy
Hanifin-Carlo
That becomes a pretty elite top 4 too.
|
So they are going to pay Hanifin $7M a year and continue to have no centre depth?

Girard has been buried a bit on the Avs, with Makar and Toews ahead of him on the depth chart, but he's a swift-skating, puck-moving offensive D with great hockey sense who could blossom with more responsibility. It would make even more sense if the team plans to move Hanifin at some point.

I just don’t see Girard available until the Avs figure out what they do with Toews. If they’d rather keep Toews then I see Girard being moved.

Oh, they definitely want to keep Toews, he’s an elite D-man. Their problem is finding the cap space to re-sign him.

Yeah. Toews over Girard isn’t even a discussion

How does signing Hanifin prevent them from signing a C?
They will have close to 30M in cap space according to CF.

It doesn't. I am just saying maybe signing Hanifin to a $7M AAV should not be priority #1. If they sign their upcoming UFA's including DeBrusk and sign two top 6 C's that pretty much eats that up.

D I would love to see the Flames target: Bowen Byram(COL), Michael Anderson(LAK), Cam York(PHI), Rasmus Sandin(WSH), K'Andre Miller(NYR), Ryan Lindgren(NYR).
Unlikely any of them will be available, but that would be the sort of direction I would like CGY to go in.
|
Can't see Byram, Sandin (lights out after coming over to Caps from Toronto), or Miller being available, but the others are a distant possibility, perhaps. Lindgren was for sure rumored to be on the block this summer, and he would be a good pick-up, as he's got fire and toughness.

If you're referring to me I mentioned it's unlikely any of those D are available.
Crazy trades do happen in the NHL when a team is going for a cup. Seguin was traded for Loui Eriksson for example.
A remote possibility that he becomes available if COL decides to lock up Toews for the same contact given to Makar.

Never said or insinuated he was. Just a comment on a player I’d much prefer over Girard in reference to Colorado. Not to mention we don’t have a player comparable to trade 1v1 for Bo, so of course it wouldn’t happen for Backlund no matter what.

It is when cap space is involved. The value of girard at 5m and retaining Byram (and utilizing the saved space for his eventual raise) might be more enticing than keeping Toews who may likely more than double his salary come 2024.

Even if they do re-sign Debrusk, I think they do look at another top 4 dman being a priority along with a C. They plan on using Coyle and Zacha as C's so don't think they need 2 Centers, probably just really looking for that true top 6 offensive center.
Marchand - ??? - Pastrnak
Debrusk - Zacha - Frederic
??? - Coyle - Geekie
Lindholm - McAvoy
???? - Carlo
IMO more than enough money to fit in a C, Hanifin, and Debrusk.
