Adults who wear torn-at-the-knee jeans: Stop it. You're fooling nobody. You're not wiping out on skateboards or playing schoolyard football. Ripped jeans are for 8 year olds. The only adults who can wear ripped jeans are the Ramones, and they're all dead now.

I agree that there is a certain age that you you can no longer pull off ripped jeans, but I wouldn’t call it adulthood. Bought a pair of jeans lately? Half the styles are ripped.
Maybe once you hit 30? I don’t know but it’s definitely in my rear view mirror.

I remember the days when jeans without the rips were the norm at places like American eagle.
Today you'd have to wade through all the intentionally ravaged and torn ones just to find a pair that doesn't have "stylistic" defects.
I seriously thought that fad died out 10 years ago.
Why would you want a tear that expands with every wear and wash of those pants from the day you buy it? Also why does any one want exposed knees in this climate.
Are we just striving to look slightly more homeless with inflation and housing/rental markets?
Just make normal, uncompromised pants that cover the area they're designed to.

I'm fine with well-worn jeans, for instance, by blue collar tradespeople. Those are almost always properly mended. Torn clothing should never be considered fashionable.
And don't get me started on sweatpants and good shoes....

The worn look within reason is fine. A subtle and well design washed look gives more of a 3D appearance for pants (if that's something you want lol). It's when the fabric itself is ####ed with on purpose that the pants suck, at least for any one not teenaged.

Even worse when it's guys over 40 with designer ripped jeans they pair with polished smart shoes and a sport coat on date night, I've definitely seen that a few times downtown.
The more expensive the ripped jeans look (or richer the wearer appears), the worse it is.

Young adults that wear ripped clothing aren't trying to fool people into thinking they work blue collar jobs or wiped out on a skateboard though. Go check out a college campus, it's what young people wear, especially young women.
I guess that's just how it has always been, older adults don't like what young people are wearing.

Sometimes it’s just funnier to watch it play out uninterrupted.
Nothing says “I have an opinion on fashion that’s worth sharing” than a borderline-geriatric who wears cargo shorts and orthopaedic sneakers.

I saw an ex of mine had become a ripped jeans wearer.
Ngl, it provided positive reinforcement about that separation.

Well, we do know that the Ramones didn't wear out their denims by getting down on their knees during guitar solos... so maybe they were posers too.

Prominent rock figures get a hall pass to wear whatever they like.
Except sweatpants with dress shoes - cardinal sin.

In another fashion note, when did socks with sandals become trendy? Growing up the only people you saw wearing that combo were geriatrics, but now I never see anyone under the age of 30 wearing flip flops without socks, even on the beach. What gives?

Gen Z is all about function over fashion, to such a degree that functional clothing is what is fashionable.
For example, take a look at the many anguished millennial women with dust-covered closets full of heels/stilettos/wedges because Gen Z has made it trendy and acceptable to put on the whole works (makeup, jewelry/accessories, dresses/outfits, etc.) and then slap on a pair of white dad sneakers to go out on the town.

Only when I'm going to play hockey in the summer. And I'm certainly not on the cutting edge of fashion when I go to the rink.
