Could you 2 start a petty argument to entertain the rest of us for a few days? It's been at least a week since the last one

Ugh. Wish I would have known this in July, would have spent a lot less time looking for news. Better late than never I suppose and appreciate the info. Explains the crap offers conroy has been getting. Guess we will have to wait and see if any deal that gets consummated surpasses the purported offer from Buffalo of olofsson and a 3rd.
Deflating.

Once it was clear the market for UFA's was weak due to the better teams having little to no cap space, I always felt that the best time to trade our UFA's was at the trade deadline.
But that only makes sense if the Flames are actually willing to do that.
That means punting the season , and I expect that the Flames will be, at worse, close to a playoff spot at the deadline. I actually think they could easily be comfortably in a playoff spot at that time. What direction will the team take at that time?
I'm not even sure they know right now, too many variables.

You should head on over to the Off Topic board to get your fix of that. It's been non-stop petty arguments lately. It's like being transported back to the early 2000s.

Couple QAnon guys that destroy all political discussion and threads. Really ruined that place, which is too bad because CP used to be my go to for local, provincial, federal and American political news.
Now it's a giant turd fest of BS far right claims and postings, followed by everyone working to disprove the misinformation.

And there I was thinking this was going to be a super interesting Summer and it’s turned into a complete bore fest. This club is such a mess, if it can go wrong it will, so just know we will get injuries to those we want to trade at the deadline. We will also no doubt be in a playoff spot and keep all the up and coming UFA’s and then get knocked out in the first round of playoffs and lose all the UFA’s for nothing. Come on it’s bound to happen its’s been Calgary’s shtick for the last 20 odd years. The good side of this is it will allow all the super positive to say we now have loads of Cap Space. Yippee.

Nobody is buying right now. No cap space. Calgary managed to get a late 1st out of Toffoli, which is one of the bigger deals of the off season. Covid kept revenues down and there's nothing that the Flames organization can do about that.

Sorry. Early in the morning, in my mind I valued Sharangovich as a late 1st. Sharangovich and a 3rd. Still one of the bigger deals this off season.

Well it was a third not a first and a player we can but hope is decent. Anyhow the point still stands something always happens to stuff Calgary one way or another. Awful lot to put on an inexperienced GM and Coach and yes I know Conroy has been around for years. Previous GM completely stuffed the Flames and then did a runner, I hope Toronto enjoys his work.

I'd have to do some digging ... but I don't think they've lost many UFAs to nothing over the years, at least of significance.
They traded Iginla and Bouwmeester in the last rebuild (Bouwmeester early). Giordano reupped and was retained. Tkachuk they moved a year early to avoid losing him.
Gaudreau for sure, Brodie out, but Tanev in was a wash ... but have there been many others creating a "schtick"?

Yup Burke felt Feaster was weak and getting terrible returns and as not going to allow that to continue. We didn't get the price we wanted and he let him walk.
Its not like Cammy went on to tear it up anyways after scoring 27 goals he scored 31 goals in his last 169 games of his career.

I am probably one of the few that supported that decision by Burke. A lot of people were pushing the idea that it didn't matter what we got, as long as we got something. I think that is a terrible way to manage assets. The Flames had a reputation of being an easy target to get assets for cheap and Burke wanted to stop the bleeding and change that reputation, and I don't blame him. There were probably some playoff teams that were kicking themselves for not offering more and will hopefully think twice next time.

Eh, I agree it was just the first one that came to mind other than Gaudreau and Brodie
