This was always the case. Conroy said he didn’t want to risk losing more UFA’s. Hanifin reportedly didn’t want to re-sign a year early after a bad year (shocking). It was never reported that Hanifin didn’t want to stay in Calgary at all.

Yes, this. I meant to post that in rumours thread but my brain is not awake yet.

There might be something to that. I think early on there might have been some lingering feelings from the previous season. Listening to Conroy, he mentioned that a lot of the players hit the ice earlier this season to get things started. Could be that to a man they want to make sure they have a better season to put the previous one behind them and have hit that reset button.

Yeah, neither would want to bargain low. Look for great efforts from all of the pending UFAs this season.

Rasmus is a great choice for captain! I do think he's my favourite current Flame

East coast is asleep when Flames games are on. Who's a household name other than maybe Huberdeau or Kadri, who just got here and had disappointing seasons?

Not arguing, but I know for sure Steinberg has been saying for weeks and weeks now that Hanifin specifically wants to play closer to home. No hard feelings, no issues with Calgary, but just wants to play in Murica.
Anyways, I'm a fan of Hanifin, so this is good news to me if he actually has changed his mind. Agree with another post that a lot of the players probably just wanted out after a toxic season from a not fun coach.

It's pretty clear that the 2022/23 Calgary Flames were zero fun to play on. Nobody wanted to be in the locker room. Nobody wanted to show up for work....well I think Toffoli liked it.
Things will be very different this year. No Sutter. Plus an infusion of kids. Not just kids, but high energy and low ego kids. It'll be a different team. It's harsh going into the year with so many UFAs, but I'm glad Conroy's not desperately overpaying vets to stay.

It actually was reported that Hanifin wanted to move closer to home on the east coast.

Not sure what you're getting at. Like the team is floating the idea of Andersson being captain through the media to pressure Lindholm, who's been promised the C, to sign before the season? I'm totally lost as to what you're point could be in regards to this thread.

And I think that if the right deal comes along, they WILL pull the trigger. Even if he is open to signing.

If the right deal comes along, they will trade anyone, but particularly any of the pending UFAs. I'm just not confident that the right deal will come along until some team runs into injury problems.

There is a time when leadership needs to have a calm head, I'm not sure that Rasmus has always shown that, but as Spurs said the team knows him better.
Also, your post seems kunty.

At the same time, that’s what people said about Tkachuk and he left to go lead another team to the finals after playing for years under a captain that never seemed to inspire guys to do much of anything (great player though, and I’m sure a great captain regardless).
I just want someone who has grown up in the organization, plays with some passion, and wants to be here. Andersson checks all the boxes.

I wouldn't say Andersson has many antics.
Having said that, I like antics. I'll take all the antics you got.

That's fair.
I'm not saying that the Captain shouldn't have passion, in fact they should.
Just sometimes think the Captain needs to have the ability to de-escalate a situation if that is what is best for the team in that moment.
Not having a Captain on a team is no good. It hurt the Flames last year.
Also, I just didn't like how that post was worded.
