It always seems odd to me, and bitter honestly, to be ragging on the Oilers like that. No disrespect intended at all. But they did get farther than we did. The forum always seemed to be bigger than that, and it was the Oiler fans that sounded bitter. Not pointed at you specifically, but just a general observation. Honestly shows commitment to be together like that. But like all things, the proof is in the pudding. Hopefully the Flames right the ship this year

There's nothing innovative nor unusual in informal skates the first week of September. This is why the Oilers nation gets mocked.

I doubt it, when he is waived, my guess he will clear and starts the season at AHL

The Flames picking up Phillips' one-year deal, when he turned down their two-year offer? Some tidy bit of work.

It’s actually hard to tell whether it would be more insulting as a hockey player/team to be mocked for doing a free skate together or commended for your commitment. The latter is incredibly infantilizing, which is great.

Yep Oiler fan ... no one else is doing it!
I’m sure they’re lobbying the league to count their informal skate points towards trophies and records.

I’m pretty sure that by ‘skating’ the Oilers are referring to avoiding prosecution.

I mean, good for Edmonton… nothing wrong with that and likely starts their team building early this year.
But the media pandering to it like it’s unheard of and totally amazing is overkill.

After their season last year and the room issues, wouldn’t hurt the flames to have done something similar.

If they are on the ice as a team while utilizing team facilities, and with a coach then they are circumventing the CBA, same as the Canucks team skate a few years ago ($50,000 fine). If you look at the picture included there is a coach at the far blue line, so typical Oilers assuming they can do what they want.

The entire team vs's 4-5 guys
That's the difference.

Doesn't really matter either way really.

I believe most of the team will skate today though (multiple ice times).
It didn't sound like just 4-5 guys.

And multiple skates in a day with less guys per session is more effective, since they get more reps in.

If the whole team is there - lots of standing around watching other guys.

Kinda what most Oiler players do anyway. Doesn't hurt to practice that early

Here is some footage of the Oilers practicing the more important aspects of their game over the summer.

Mangiapane is getting some love from an analytics perspective. They predict he can get 70+ points this season. That would be absolutely awesome.

I got youtube and twitter embeds all worked out, but not so much the NHL video option. Anywho, just a video of the unofficial on ice session from today. No talking, just players skating.

Glad the boys are back, it means hockey is just around the corner.

To quote a Flames legend D. Sutter.
"I guess we're going to Winsport tomorrow."

I don't think the embed would have worked with this video anyways, since they updated the website. Here's the youtube just in case
