It seems pretty apparent that Nylander isn't in the long term plans of the Leafs and I would love to see him on the Flames without getting into cap and all that. That part always tends to rain on the parade. The Leafs need to dump cap and the Flames can't really take on cap, so Arizona would have to get involved somehow.

Regardless of acquisition cost, I just can't see Nylander extending for a reasonable amount in Calgary.

The Flames should actually invest in the guys that they already have in the system. And the Flames should try to build assets.

Agree. Now doesn't work for me either. I am like 100 sit-ups away from having my #### back together though. Per day. For the next month.

Willy is going to be a UFA at 28 and likely have posted three consecutive PPG seasons.

If we’re talking about a .8-1ppg player in Lindholm getting $9M at (effectively) 30 years old, then what’s reasonable for Willy?

$11M+ easily in my eyes, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable given where things seem to be going.

If we sign Lindy, I think the Flames need to go out and offer Willy $11.5M to try and add to the top of the roster, because that’s where the Flames need the most help in this attempt to stay relevant. Heck, perhaps there’s a Flames premium that may push it to $12M.

There’s no way Nylander is getting an 8 digit contract. Not if he’s wanting 7-8 years.

Two way center will carry a premium versus a winger. 12 million for Nylander is just using hyperbole to try and make the Lindholm contract look worse. If anything Huberdeau is the better comparable and he had better stats going into his extension.

Or, crazy idea, don't cripple the franchise with either contract and try to recover as gracefully as possible from the mistakes Treliving already farted out before running off to Toronto.

hmmm, go on...

forgetting cap for a second, i like this deal...Willy is better than Bread, Hanifin is better than Liljegrean and that Knies looks like a player.

I can't speak for my fellow Flames fans on this board. I'm extremely excited for training camp, and very excited for the season ahead. I think we're going to see a very exciting brand of hockey and hopefully a big bounce back from Huberdeau!

Yeah, should be fun. Everybody is saying the right things and the talent is very obviously there, so it could be a big year.

And if it’s not, then at least it’ll be fun to watch and fun to follow how Conroy turns the team around as I’m sure he’ll get more aggressive with both him and Huska likely mainstays for a few years at least.

I think the Flames should consider moving Kadri to the RW before bringing on another high priced contract we can't afford.

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Kadri should be a potent top line with a premier distributor, net crasher, and sniper. Lindholm also keeps the trio honest defensively. We already know Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman is dynamite 5 on 5, and the extra minutes will help Mangiapane and Coleman recover a bit of their offensive oomph.

That leaves you with Sharongovich-Dube-Coronato and Pelletier-Ruzicka-Dueher which is a competent bottom 6 with a lot of youth and energy. Sharongovich and Dube both at C so you have options. The Ruzicka line is positioned to attack the white meat and put up some points.

Apparent to whom? The Leafs absolutely would like to keep Nylander there long term. It is trying to make the money work and agreeing on his value that is the issue.

I would trade Hanifin straight-up for Knies- no way Toronto gives him up. I loved that kid in his draft year, love him now. He's going to be a star power-forward. Only problem is that he's American.

Well, they certainly have the right GM to do something that stupid.
