There can be made a case for regular season success, like the two years recently the Flames have had, being valid data point of "success". Arguably regular season success SHOULD be celebrated more, it is such a long and tough grind for months. I don't have a problem with fans who want to make the argument that it's enough for a successful season to have success in the regular season, even if the playoffs are a flop.

Personally I could not care less about the regular season. Case and point, I would take the long playoff run the Panthers had last year over the Presidents trophy they won two years ago any day of the week. It's not even close really.
Playoff success is the ultimate priority, but I can see how fans at least enjoy seasons like 21/22.

There were some real jump out of your seat memories that season, I still remember certain game and goals and how much I enjoyed watching them like the 4-3 OT win over the Avs.

At least I was getting value for my time as a fan committing 3 hours a game to watch Flames hockey.
Solid entertainment value and excitement as a hockey fan, even though the playoff loss to the Oilers really sucked.
I also felt that team could come back the next season and maybe get further; that they would be around the top competitive teams for a while and have another shot at it.

Last season was the lowest of lows where it wasn't even enjoyable to watch games. Just don't give me that level of garbage again.

Yeah that's why I said you can pretty easily make the case that regular season success is important for the fans, even if every player, coach etc. in hockey always says it's all about the playoffs. I'll use the Panthers two years ago as an example again because it hammers the point for me, highest scoring offense in 25 years and ridiculous comeback wins over and over again- it was really fun to watch no doubt. But then when they faceplanted in the playoffs it left a pretty bad taste in the mouth. Winning the Presidents trophy means nothing at that point so I'd argue that they didn't have success although they were highly entertaining (in the regular season not in the playoffs, thanks Brunette). But I can see the opposite argument too.

Still wait and see.
No expectation of major trades until season.
Expect Lindholm to re-sign if coach and team are doing well.
Backlund’s future is up to him.
Zadorov and Tanev are trade deadline calls.
Hanifin is still the wild card.

Same as my first post on July 24.

He's just relaying the information he is getting, just like you are. And we appreciate it all, especially when we're all craving the slightest tidbit of information.

God, I can see potential disaster with letting Lindy play until December.
It will be just our luck that he gets injured, then leaves.

Yeah, I am not liking the continued road down the path of "i don't know, maybe." We need to solve this before training camp. It's only going to be a distraction.

I’m watching for the statement from Lindholm, “I just want to focus on hockey. Contract discussions will wait until the off-season.”

So for people saying this needs to be solved now, would you then be OK seeing the Flames trade him for a poor price. What is the tipping point for all of you between "THIS NEEDS TO BE SOLVED NOW" and the return the team gets. Because clearly those two things are at odds.

You don’t remember? It was this clearly written, facts of the situation, piece of information.

Because if all of a sudden, this team is playing great hockey again and winning, players like Lindholm, Backlund and Hanifin might want to stick around.

Yeah, if the return is that bad, I'd rather have him for the year then lose him for nothing. Instead of getting essentially nothing back and being a worse team. This is why I'm not a GM.

I just think it’ll be a distraction. Cue the Francis constant questioning every game if Lindholm is staying.

I get both sides. One on hand, forget the crappy return and just play out the season. On the other hand, trade him and just move on from yet another core piece that didn’t work out. Hopefully, we can have a contender pony up at the deadline. That seems to be the new motive, throw the assets midseason. We saw it with the Isles/Horvat and Boston threw out assets to grab Bertuzzi, Toronto with ROR, etc.

The more I think about it, the more I’m fine with riding out Lindholm until the TDL. There’s a benefit now to not adding 8-9m of cap, as long as you’re utilizing it to either improve the team with a top end player or taking on a bad contract with 1-2 expiration + assets.

Yup this is always the tough part as a fan...we don't know what the return is right now.

We can assume the market is strong but I do feel like if a market was there for Hanifin he'd be moved already.

Market seems soft right now. Last year we were surprised how strong the market was for rentals at the deadline - so probably hoping that's the case again if they need to move these guys.
