I'd say more that they were in a cap crunch, and squeezed Laf. The Rangers have $728K in space now with 22 man roster. I'm a bit surprised that a 39 point 3rd year winger gave up two years at $2.325M, and not just one.
For comparison, the Flames got Dube done at $2.3M x 3 years after a .43PPG season, while Laf just put up a .48PPG and took $2.325 x 2 years...so I guess it's about market value.
