Coming from the fact he voiced not wanting to leave a U.S market previously during his trade request just a few years back.
Couple that with the fact his dad's a die hard Oilers junkie, I just don't see it happening, there's no draw outside of CGY VASTLY overpaying him for him to want to play here long term.

WPG could be a potential trade partner in a trade with little/no futures.
How about something like:
To CGY: Ehlers(2x$6M) + Lowry(3x$3.25M)
To WPG: Lindholm(1x$4.85M) + Coleman(4x$4.9M)
I have my reservations regarding Ehlers health, but essentially we're getting a #1RW/LW and a really good #3C for a #1C, and a #3RW/LW. I still think Lindholm is the best piece, so a part of me would like WPG to add, but the extra year on Ehlers, and Lowry being on a great contract make me think it might be a fair trade.

DeBrusk has zero value for the Flames unless Hanifin brings back a top 6 centre which he won’t and the Flames move out a winger. Lohrei is intriguing but Harrison looks like a toss in. Basically Lindholm for Lohrei. Think they could do better

WPG is in the same shoes as Calgary, I doubt Lindholm would sign there. They have their own Lindholm situation in Scheifele, who is also the better player and likely the reason why there hasn’t been any kind of traction with Lindholm.

Yes, I'm well aware of the Scheifele situation, but I don't think he has been the better player over the last couple of seasons. Scheifele might be better at generating offense, but defensively his game is inferior to Lindholm. This scenario would also give them the option to deal Scheifele if they can re-sign Lindholm.

Personally, I think the 4th rounder is unnecessary. I like Debrusk, but the 2 prospects we would get in Lohrei and Harrison would be great. Lohrei is a 6'4" defenseman who put up 32 points in 40 NCAA games this past season. Obviously, he's offensive-minded with keen vision and playmaking ability, and can QB a PP. He's developed a nice two-way game as well, and is good at starting the breakout. Harrison is a 6'3" center with a great shot and is well known for his defensive game. His floor is 3rd-line C, IMO. I've watched him play many times, and while he's not flashy and keeps things simple, he's effective.
|
I don't think he was suggesting this as a trade so much as what a trade could look like / how it could work given what Boston has available and the cap etc. His quote:
"Obviously, I want to preface all of this with the fact that I’m not going for accuracy on a trade prediction here. However, this was an exercise to see if the trade would even be possible, and sure enough, it is. "

That Boston trade is pretty bad - high quality for mediocre quantity. No upside anywhere in it.

If the flames are dead set on remaining competitive I still wonder about reinhart as a trade target for hanifin.
Similar caliber player and age. Both pending UFAs but Reinhart being a western Canadian may be more inclined to sign here.
Would give us a legit top 6 right shot forward and insulate us abit from lindy leaving as he can play center.
Still much rather have future based deals but I don't think you get a much better current player in a hanifin deal.

I agree with Steinberg (think it was him) with the idea that if both guys must go, if one trade is a hockey trade, the other needs to be for futures.
Related, there were trade proposals I read on Reddit, that I believe originated from the Score?
Anyway, long story short they were
Hanifin to Dallas for Faksa a 2024 1st and Bourque
Lindholm to Columbus for Boqvist, Sillinger & a 2025 1st
Both would be great, but I can't see either happening at this point.

Yeah I would be happy with either of those. Alot of young wildcards in there.
If both of those trades went through it would signal a pretty significant reset for this team

I would love both of these to happen. Immediately add young NHL ready players and top picks. Boqvist and Faksa could step right in. Faksa could also potentially fill the Backs shutdown role. Love it

Conroy is not going to do anything
Next big event is a fire sale at the TDL for picks and prospects if they are out of it. Or ride one last playoff hope and sign some UFAs to replace the ones leaving next summer
The writing is on the wall. You can take that to the bank. Guaranteed.

I really like both of those deals specifically the Lindholm one but done together would really help set the Flames up to stay competitive while gaining pieces for the future. I did notice the article states Lindholm has turned down the Flames extension offer which as far as we know is not true

How can something be so fluid be guaranteed?
Oh right because it's you posting. The only guarantee is the worst outcome.

I think it’s more under the assumption he has because they wouldn’t trade him otherwise.

No chance that the Jets give up a guy signed for 2 years for a guy signed for 1 year they would simply need to trade as there is zero chance he signs in Winnipeg.
Plus Coleman has a 10 team trade list, fat chance the Jets are on that list.
The Jets are in a similar situation as the Flames, they are terrible trade partners.

I still think, the Flames will move one player before the training camp
Likely Hanifin.
Starting the season with 6 pending UFAs is a not a great idea...
